Surprised that no one even mentions "Shadow of the Vampire" (2000) with Willem Dafoe and John Malkovich. Definitely a "love it or hate it" movie, but worth seeing either way for Dafoe's wonderful performance.

how can one forget Shadow of the Vampire.. best Vampire/Horror film made-to-date.

reply

After reading all the replies, there are many great ones out there. I personally do not like Near Dark or Twilight, but to each their own. However, do not forget Christopher Lee as Dracula or a great family movie with all the Universal monsters called "The Monster Club."

I enjoy Near Dark despite its absurdity

what's with the lack of love for '30 Days of Night' in the replies? I think that it has one of the most (hypothetical) realistic portrayal of vampires

If vampires did exist they most likely would be a lot more gruesome and gross looking, and they would be ancient, they could easily have a language. They also wouldn't be taking people on dates or living regularly in society

the vampires in 30 Days of Nights seemed hyper aware of their need to stay away from society except when necessary and were especially cruel with a very obvious awareness of the difference between their species and humans

I never really loved 'Interview', I found the pacing strange and some of the plot elements absurd

There honestly aren't a lot of great vampires movies. I'm fond of the original Nosferatu but beyond that I can't think of one I absolutely love outside of 30 Days

If i go crazy will you still call me Superman?

reply

What ruined "30 Days of Night" for me was all the blood on the snow and victim. Just how much blood did the vampire get into himself? That's when I realized the vampires were too stupid to live. What a waste of precious food. There are most likely starving vampires in China who could have used that blood for themselves.

My personal favorite vampire movies:

1)30 Days Of Night
Has a very dark atmosphere, surrounding the vampires and their no remorse, no wasting time approach. Josh Harnett does a great job as the lead, and the beheading near the end.. was awesome.

2)From Dusk Til Dawn
Fast paced, fun, and un-predictable.. great performances from it's actors and just really sticks in your mind after you've watched it.

3)The Lost Boys
Old school classic, with a cool vibe going for it. Has plenty of laughs, along with some darkness, which gives it a perfect blend.

Not a fan of Interview With A Vampire, or John Carpenter's Vampires. I got bored of both while watching, but a re-watch in the near future might change my mind.
