I wonder how Jerry became so indebted.
Without that knowledge, I feel sorry for him and wish his scheme had worked out.

shareA question that's always nagged me.
shareJerry doesn't seem like the most responsible person. He could have been one of those people who doesn't know how to handle things - like money. A lot of people are crap at it.
shareJust based on what we saw of him in the movie, probably some high risk lame brained investment schemes.
shareI don't think the filmmakers wanted us to know.
shareGreed. It does it everytime.
shareThis is my biggest question for over 15 years I have always asked. And how did Jerry get that much in Debt???
shareHe was a cowardly narcissist who ultimately chose not to take any responsibility for all the crap he ended up causing and ended up ruining his family and his own life because of it. And there's the scene where him not taking her Father-in-Law's fee as a token of kindness and instead getting angry when he has a backup plan showed how selfish and ungrateful he could be, and how he put his own well-being over others. I don't feel sorry for someone like that at all.
Not to mention the reason he committed these crimes was because he was probably committing criminal fraud in the first place, and he only cared about getting away with it instead of accepting it.
