My guess is that he only married her for the money seeing how rich her father is.
And the disconnection he shows his son. Probably knocked her up because she wanted a kid or an accidental conception.
If there was any love, then he wouldn't have had her kidnapped.

The character Jerry is incapable of loving anyone. He is only interested in his own self. Since it is fiction and their backstory isn't addressed he could have married Jean for any of a number of reasons and we can never know.

When he smiled and said hello at the girl in the counter at the dinner where they were just discussing his wife’s ransom shows he doesn’t care.
I didn’t notice all this until I watched it again. He really is a sociopath.
I'd say he's more of a psychopath. He does have the ability to pretend to care and act the way he knows he should act in certain situations and he plans ahead and does things in a calculated way. Stupid, maybe, but he does try to plan.
