I have tried to watch this movie, but I still can't stand it. I don't find it funny. Leslie Mann is the most boring actress I can think of, she wasn't even funny in Knocked up, 40 year old virgin, Big Daddy....and Jim Carey is gross in this movie. Overactor, just to much. When will he get it, we have all seen him overact, do something else. It is by far a horrible movie. Way to go Ben.

Woah. Pump the brakes. He wasn't just playing the character. He was absolutely hamming it up to an annoying extreme. Carrey reminds me of this guy named Matt I went to highschool with, and he just would not stop. In both cases, I want them to just sit down and shut up. The scene where Broderick is talking to him in the rain? Was carrey "playing the character's" reaction? Hell no. He has this dumb look on his face. Because that is funny, right Jim? Faces and annoying sounds and huge mannerisms are funny, huh?

I think you harbor negative feelings toward Jim for some of your own reasons, and thats fine I do the same thing with other actors myself. No matter how he acts you'll just see overacting, while if a different actor does the same thing you'd probably like it. Or thats what I find in my own experiences.
I don't think he was an over-actor in this, he did a great job with creating the character and the story of the movie had a lot of dimensions that comedies normal don't have. Comedy story's are usually flat and rely on just the comedy to make the movie enjoyable, I felt this movie was different; it was deeper.

He's playing a role. He is absolutely capable of playing different roles as well. I think it fits, the cable guy IS CRAZY, so? You're not suppose to like him - and you're saying you knew someone like that; obviously not overacting, because there are people like that in real life.
Have you seen him in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind? Number 23? The Majestic?
MB you don't understand it or its too subversive. A subversive flick for sure, with many subtle references that fly over most peoples heads. A Cult classic for people it reaches.
