Why didn't they choose Meryl Streep?
I know that Glenn Close was a suitable actress for the role, but why didn't they choose Meryl Streep to play as Cruella?

shareI dunno. Did she audition for the role and they didn't pick her?
I wished Mary Stuart Masterson played Anita. I think that would have been great.

because they didn't want to paint her into a role playing only evil characters. if she had been in this, they would likely have found someone else to do "the devil wears prada" because some people would say that she had already done "101 dalmatians" which has a very similar character. people would probably criticize her for doing the same character twice.
Green Day is SO punk that they put their faces on any product they can!!!
I was going to say the same thing, amatt!
This time, Effie White's gonna win.
Whitney was wrong. Children are no longer the future.
Meryl Streep would have been better
shareI love Meryl Streep, one of my favorite actresses but so is glenn close and she rocked this role.
sharemeryl streep would not have been better, she'd just have waved her arms around a lot more.
"they should give nicole kidman an oscar for being able to show any emotion after THAT much botox".
Ugh! Glenn Close is class, and she did fantastically as Cruella.
Why is everyone obsessing over Meryl Streep nowadays?
I wonder how Sigourney Weaver would have been like in this role, overplaying it cartoonishly... But maybe she was busy at the time, playing another villainess in Snow White in the Czech Republic.
shareI'm SO glad they didn't choose Meryl Streep. To me, Glenn Close IS Cruella! She was PHENOMENAL in this role.
"Having a dream's just the beginning" <3
Sigourney Weaver would have made an interesting Cruella, I always think Wendie Malick looks a lot like Cruella De Vil, I can't halp thinking it whenever I see her
I am Jack's smirking revenge.
Meryl Streep wouldn't have been as loud/intense as Glenn Close was. Think about it, Meryl played the haute couture diva in "Devil Wears Prada" but she wasn't a screaming, loud, maniacally crazy diva like Cruella. Glenn nailed this role to the bone.
shareWere they...supposed to choose Meryl Streep?
