OT Least favorite old Nickelodeon shows

Let me say this first, I grew up with 90s and early 2000s nickelodeon and most of these shows played a huge role in my childhood. Shows like hey arnold, rocko, invader zim, ren and stimpy, doug, and angry beavers ruled the day. With that being said, I'm intrested in knowing what shows back then you didn't like or least liked from that great era.

First, here's my take:
The first one that comes to mind is the Brothers Flub. A lot of you may not remember this that's because it only ran one season. And for a good reason. The show was about two brothers who are delivery boys in this alien type world (universe?) and from what I remember fought a lot, didn't get along with the other delivery people and they had a mean boss. I was really appealed to this show because it seemed like a rip off of the angry beavers and every episode was kind of the same. And it also had the most annoying intro ever. Seriously look it up on youtube.

Another old nick show that I didn't like was Butt Ugly Martians. i remember the ads for this show made it look more of a action type cartoon but really just like the Brothers Flub, episodes generally followed the same formula and it was weird. The jokes were dry and the action was not what it was hyped up to be. I only watched four episodes of this show.

The next show on the list is the Amanda Show. At first I liked it but as it went on I watched it less and found the humor to be to wacky and idiotic. I guess it's because when this show aired I was in my preteens and I was growing out of that type of humor.

I'm gonna get shot for saying things... but I really hated Ren & Stimpy. I rewatched it about a year ago, see if my opinion changed. Nope. I think I actually hate it even more than I did when I was little

ditto on the ren and stimpy. I tried to like it, but it always made me queasy when I was a kid, and it's just as bad now. good thing I'm not the only one!

reply

You guys aren't alone, I never cared for Ren and Stimpy either. I also never liked Catdog.

reply

yeah, catdog was bad too. each episode always had a really depressing ending.

reply

Well, not all of the did; but actually that's one of the things I liked about "CatDog," "Hey Arnold!" and other 90s shows: they weren't afraid to show an "unhappy" ending.
But to get to the original question.. I never got into "Ren & Stimpy" either, or "Invader Zim." I saw a few episodes of IZ; some were interesting, but it wasn't my thing. I liked "The Amanda Show," but I never got into shows like "All That" or "Kenan and Kel."

I couldn't stand the Amanda Show and I still can't. It's fine by me if someone else likes it. but it drives me nuts when it's included in the "Bring it back!" list. It was never funny. :X

I also hated Ren & Stimpy. I found it really annoying and kind of disturbing. I also don't really care for Invader Zim. I can't remember watching it when I was younger, but now that I've seen it it's really not that great of a show. I don't get all the hype.

I also didn't really like The Amanda Show or All That. They were trying to be the kids version of SNL, but the skits weren't really THAT funny. I guess they were mildly entertaining if that's all that was on. CatDog was also kind of weird.

You had awful taste in shows. Just because something is "weird" doesn't make it bad.

reply

The only Nicktoons I didn't like were Brothers' Flub, Ren & Stimpy, Aaaah! Real Monsters, Angry Beavers, and I tolerated CatDog at best. That being said for CatDog, I feel the same way about SpongeBob.

Anyway, it was the Nick shows I didn't really care for. I thought those sketch comedy shows were lame (still do), Are You Afraid of the Dark? just gave me nightmares, and there was nothing else I could ever personally relate to. Clarrisa Explains It All was alright, but after seeing it on TeenNick recently, I thought it was kind of dumb, despite watching it every day after school when I was a kid.

I actually watched Clarissa for the first time about a month ago. And really liked it. There was just... something really special about it.

Perhaps, it's that it has a nice sense of wonder?

reply

And being basically about a teenager with realistic amount of drama, family involvement etc it was something that I could easily relate to when I was younger. I recently came back from visiting my nieces and finally had to watch shows like Victorious, ICarly, Zoey101 etc and they're so on a level of aggravating and annoying. The kids are snotty and bratty beyond being able to tolerate and it always felt like the plots, or characterizations were so overdone it was horrible, and laughable (and not the way the creators intended). The one recent show I was impressed with was Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide but that was mostly because I felt like it was more like the older shows (had a dose of ridiculous comedy, some --very loose afternoon school special, and much more easy to relate) on Nick than the newer plastic, bratty whatever that is popular now..

reply

I agree about Ned. It was pretty corny, but enjoyable and relatable. I think part of it is that all Disney shows and most Nick shows have the characters in high school. And if the actors are to young to be in high school, they find stupid reasons to put them there instead of middle school (see: A.N.T. Farm). Since most of the kids watching it are in middle school, they should maybe make more middle school shows.

What you /f/e/e/l/ is what you are; and what you are is {b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l.}<3

reply

I think the reason they put most of those main characters in high school is because they want the younger grade schoolers and middle schoolers to be able to look up to them and wish they were like that themselves.

You got what you wanted but you lost what you had.

reply

Spongebob has easily taken the cake of being the worst Nick show ever!

First season, decent. But it completely and utterly declined into absolute poop.

I don't mind Ren and Stimpy. I enjoyed it as a kid more than i do now.

I hate every nick show now, other than iCarly, and thats only because of Spencer and because the humor is very "Kenan and kel" since its by the same creator.

But nobody better dis Pete and Pete.

Clarissa show, Ahhh Real Monsters, As told by Ginger, and The Wild Thornberrys

reply

My least favorite nick shows as a kid were:

-Ren and Stimpy (i just never got into it, I guess. Also I thought of it as more of a boy show)

- Invader Zim (Again I thought it was more of a boy show, but I recently watched an episode and it wasn't as bad as I had remembered)

-Catscrath

-Butt Ugly Martians (Dumbest show ever)

"Ren and Stimpy" - by far my least favorite Nick show.

Zebras like horses are quadrupeds. That is to say they have four rupeds, one on each corner, upon which they walk.

reply

Butt Ugly Martians was $h*t and easily my least favorite Nickelodeon show. I like a few episodes of Invader Zim, but not nearly as much as my High School friends did. In those days I hung out with the crowd who was into cartoons with a dark sense of humor. I love dark humor and while Invader Zim definitely has that, I never found it to be very entertaining or funny and always preferred the surreal, disturbing humor found in Ren and Stimpy instead.

Angry Beavers was so dumb to me, but for some reason I liked CatDog lol!

reply

My least favorites were:

The Wild Thornberrys: I just never liked this show for a silly reason, lol as a kid I was jealous that Eliza could speak to animals!

Spongebob Squarepants: I have never been a spongegbob fan, this show really reached the peak of it's popularity when I was in high school, and I just couldn't understand for the life of me why people my age would be so obsessed with such silliness.

I didn't like catdog and Doug

reply

As a little kid I found Doug extremely boring, after seeing the reruns on Teenick I started liking it though. Nowadays, the only old Nick shows I absolutely detest are the old cancelled ones from the early millenium, like Danny Phantom, My Dads a Rockstar, or Martin Mystery. I like to call those the "Lost years". Drake and Josh is finally the last show I actually liked enough to sit down and watch. Zoey 101, Unfabulous and shows around that era were okay. iCarly sucks, but Spencer is okay. I like the actor who plays him.

I'm Tom Hanks and I want you in my bed.

reply

I felt the same about Doug too when I was a kid. But by the time I started to actually give it a chance, it was rerunning on Disney Channel or ToonDisney one, at about 5:00 in the Morning. But I still never got into it.

But I was born in the middle of the early 90s; and between 2004 and 2006, I did not have a nickelodeon. So by the time I got Nick back, they had started to remove all their nicktoons. But I consider myself lucky to have been able to see and enjoy some of their older shows of the late and mid 90s and early 2000s.

Now I see Invader Zim is mentioned alot, and at first I felt the same. I would skip over Invader Zim as a kid when it used to come on tv, but one day I had watched it--like really watched it-- and began to enjoy it. And I became a fan of it and started watching it whenever it came on. So I do remember eventually liking Invader Zim, though I haven't seen it since I was like 10 or 11. As for Ren and Stimpy, it completely bypassed me. I didn't even know about this show when I was little, but later started watching it a few years ago. I agree it is so weird, but I did try to like it.

Um, I will say that most of my least favorite old Nick shows are probably all the live-action ones at least, cause, I just didn't watch them. I was the kid that only wanted to watch cartoons, I will admit, up until I was about 8 or 9. Before then, I only watched cartoon shows and only on channels like Nick, ToonDisney, DisneyChannel and ABC Family for my Braceface and Totally Spies.
So yes, the only Live-action tv show from old nick that I probably watched was the Amanda Show. I didn't like it at first, but I think that when I started reaching 7 or 8 that I started watching it and liking it, but rewatching it now, it can't hold my attention. Same for Kenan and Kel and All That. I love Kenan and Kel and I loved them in Good Burger, but now it's only light entertainment for me when there is nothing else on. But I did not watch it as a kid. And the same goes for a lot of the other Live-action tv shows on Nick. For some I didn't even know they existed up until recently. I skipped over them, and especially Nick at Night which I hated so much cause that meant my Cartoons would not be back on til tomorrow. And for me, Nick at Night started at around 8, which meant for the rest of the night there would be nothing good on- at least not on Nickelodeon. But that’s also when DisneyChannel started to show their live-action shows too like The Jersey and So Weird (which I did eventually become a fan of in the 2000s), and later on the Mickey Mouse Club and Zorro. And ToonDisney wasn’t a good alternative either cause they started showing most the shows that I did not watched between 9-12 PM in the early 2000s like Blazing Dragons and Gadget Boy and Sonic the Hedgehog Adventures. But as I got older, I started to find myself watching and enjoying Nick at Night, especially later on when Nick started showing shows that weren't worth anything. I eventually found myself watching the shows I so hated cause they took the place of my cartoons at that dreadful 8:00 PM like the Cosby show and George Lopez, and whatnot. As for TeenNick, I did not have Nickelodeon when they started to get more into these tween pop shows like Unfabulous or Zoey 101. I never got into those shows, but i did enjoy Ned's School Survival Guide. I think that's the only one I really watch from all their old Teennick shows. I think Icarly came later, and I did watch that on and off. I wasn't crazy about it, but it helped to past the time when I was bored andhad nothing better to do. As for Drake and Josh, I liked it well enough. It was okay, but again, these Live-Action Nick shows I did not watch when I was little. These are shows that I started watching when I was, at least, over 9 years old.

As for the Wild Thornberry's, I'm not too sure about. I can't really remember watching this show when it actually aired on TV. I hate to say it, but I think I did tune it out. Which I regret, cause I really want to watch it now. I mean, I loved the movies. As for Told by Ginger, which I think was mentioned, I always loved it, even though it seemed a little more mature than most of the other Nicktoons cause it kind of dealt with more teenaged stuff to me and at times, it was a little depressing. I mean it wasn’t at light-hearted and silly as other nicktoons at the time, so I think that I really enjoyed it for that.

Um, I do remember not liking Rocket Power. I did not care for that show at all. For Chalkzone, I liked as a kid, but I can barely stand watching it now. I did like the Fairly Odd Parents has a kid too, but don't care to watch it anymore. As for Jimmy Neutron, i liked it and then I didn't. But I would never consider it one of my favorite shows from Nick. And other shows that I never did want to watch were like Danny Phantom,The Angry Beavers, and Rocko's Modern Life.

I do remember liking CatDog though, but I don't remember there always being a sad ending. Hmm, I probably will need to rewatch it one of these days.
Well, that’s the end of my unnecessarily long rant XD But yeah.

reply

Can't really comment on the live-action shows, as I've only bothered to watch a couple of them: The Secret World of Alex Mack and Are You Afraid of the Dark? I liked both those shows, so I'll just stick to cartoons.

It's hard to say because I loved most of their cartoons, and even the ones I didn't love I did like on some level. But having said that, I just didn't care for Ren & Stimpy. I saw maybe 3 or 4 episodes, but it just didn't click with me.

Two shows that I did see more of were Angry Beavers and Catdog, and to some degree I guess you could say I liked them, but they didn't have the same kind of impact on me that Doug, Rocko's Modern Life, Rugrats, AHH! Real Monsters, or Hey Arnold did. I also saw some of Jimmy Neutron, it didn't really do anything for me, but I didn't hate it. I was more indifferent to it.

I vaguely remember ads for Rocket Power and The Wild Thornberrys, but I never watched them. They just didn't interest me at all, but having not seen a single episode I can't say either way if I think it's good or not.

Didn't really like Spongebob or Fairly Odd Parents at first, but I like them more now, though not as much as the other '90s cartoons.

I HATED Ren and Stimpy. I also always turned the TV off when CatDog was on. Although the other day my brother started singing the theme song (he's 21) and then looked up the lyrics and pronounced it as the best theme song ever lol.

One fine day with a woof and a purr
A baby was born and it caused a little stir
No blue buzzard, no three-eyed frog
Just a feline canine little CatDog.

CatDog, CatDog, alone in the world is a little CatDog!

Out on the road or back in town
All kinda critters putting CatDog down
Gotta rise above it gotta try to get along
Gotta walk together gotta sing this song.

CatDog, CatDog, alone in the world is a little CatDog!

CatDog (CatDog) CatDog (CatDog)
Alone in the world is a little CatDog!

Nick News with Linda Ellerbee was the worst and it's still on today! I know that it only came on Sundays whenever they showed a new episode but damn, the show is so unimportant; that's why you never hear anybody talking about it, ever! Time that could have been spent on something kids wanted to see was wasted on that. Another reason I disliked the show was because Linda reminded me of Janet Reno.

Butt-Ugly Martians shouldn't have been green-lighted.

I never cared for Invader ZIM while watching what little I saw of it. I never realized the following it had until I got older and started visiting forums like this here on IMDb. I'll have to get back to it sometime.

Also never cared for or watched Ren & Stimpy.

Just Jordan sucked but I barely remember it and it's not a classic.

That's all I can think of. Almost all of what I saw I liked and watched regularly.

I couldn't stand Nick News. I tried to watch it but I was like CNN look more interesting.

The next shows I couldn't stand on Nick was....

Shelby Woo

Kazaam....My brother and sister loved that show I couldn't get into it I admit they did get me to watch one episode it was somewhat funny.

I didn't like Just Jordan I hated that show

reply

Ren & Stimpy and Ahh! Real Monsters!

Both of them disgusting, especially the former. In fact, I had just recently youtubed some old R&S eps. UGH. Even worse than I remembered. How in the blue hell did that show ever make it on Nick?

Others: Wild Thornberrys, and CatDog. Only watched CatDog if there was absolutely nothing else on TV. Never watched Rocket Power either.

HM: Later seasons of All That - talk about ruining a show.

reply

I had a love/hate thing going with Ahh! Real Monsters!. My brother used to absolutely love the show, but some days I just couldn't stomache it and other days it had me glued to the T.V.

I had the same thing going with Cat/Dog. I guess both shows depended on my mood after coming home from school.

The only show that I really hated was Jimmy Neutron. I could only watch a few episodes every now and then when I was bored because it was a crappy show. Sheen was beyond annoying, Carl was too wimpy, and Jimmy was not a good protagonist.
