The Big Fork and Spoon

Hi I’ve looked through the pages of posts and saw no threads on this topic so apologies if this has been asked about before.

So. The big wooden fork and spoon hanging in Frank and Marie’s kitchen. There was an episode talking about them where we find out they were a wedding present they both hated. I believe they had been given by one of Frank’s relatives so Marie expected him to return them or something but he refused and just hung one on the wall and it ended up being their first fight as a married couple (Marie later hung the other one up higher out of spite and that’s why they’re not even). But that’s not what I’m asking about.

What I’m wondering is, why do they physically change in appearance at least twice over the course of the series? Sometimes they are very large and very dark in color, then smaller and lighter, and I’m pretty sure even smaller and lighter still. Was this actually explained in any episode (if it was I missed it) or in commentaries by the directors/crew? As I recall the largest set was there in season 1 meaning those must have been the wedding gifts but in the episode I mentioned above I remember them being one of the smaller sets which of course doesn’t make sense. Was the crew just trolling?

I watched the whole series and noticed this too, but afaik was never explained. Probably just some minor adjustments here and there as maybe they would change things as time goes along

I remember when I was a kid in the '60s and people would have weird stuff like that hanging on the dining room or kitchen wall.
