Tommy was all too often really outright creepy around Alissa. And Alissa herself was always sweet and nice and sane, which frankly was just hella boring. She never seemed to have an inner life at all, just tolerating all the craziness of the Solomons, without ever thinking about it. Also, I simply didnt get why Alissa would go steady with Tommy in the first place. There was just nothing special between them. And a hottie like Alissa should have had other, nicer, less creepy offers.
On the other hand, August had all kind of fun quirks. She was a bit crazy and unpredictable, sometimes even more so than the Solomons, and most importantly she was an equal to Tommy, the guy who is supposed to be some super old, super intelligent alien. Whow ! In fact, she even often had the upper hand and played him.

I think August is funnier than Alissa but, she was in the fresh years of the show.
So funny how Dick used to yell August out the house after he asked her for opinions and promised not to judge her for her responses. Never really had that with Alissa.
