How was this show successful? Not saying I think it's bad quite the opposite but I can't see how this had mass appeal.

For me at least is was the fish out of water theme that it shares with The Beverly Hillbillies. Both shows deal with families who find themselves in an environment that is totally alien to where they come from. Their struggles to make sense of the culture around them, and misunderstanding a lot of what is going on, is what makes the show so enjoyable. Excellent writers and characters insured the success of Third Rock. share
