best line in any movie, ever!!!
"i can lay you out & fill your mouth with your mother's faeces. or we can talk." & delivered in such a quietly & reasonably courteous manner? pure & utter genius!

shareDo you know how you got that dent, in your top lip? Way back, before you were born, I told you a secret, then I put my finger there and I said "Shhhhh!"
But the movie is full of superb quotes! One of the best, and most underrated movies, in existence.
Snatching after us who smote them, brother,
Pawing us who dealt them war and madness.

you know how you got that dent in ur top lip,way back before u were born i told u a secret and said sshhh!thats the line rite there i had that one on my voicemail several times!cheers mates, faceuno
shareI love that line. It shows just how much the writers did their homework. It was widely believe at a time in the Church that the dent in the top lip was an impression of the angel Gabriel's finger quieting the mind to all of the secrets of heaven whispered during those nine months in the womb. Really a wonderful line.
shareAside from the line in the original poster's thread, Walken can say things so beautifully, that he probably adlibs many of his lines in this movie. He has such a way with words.
share"we must talk..."
"oh my god"
"god? god is love. i dont love you."
Oh, so that's what an invisible barrier looks like - Fidgit
Catherine: Go to hell!
Gabriel: Heaven, darling. Heaven. At least get the zip code right.
Catherine: It's all the same to you, isn't it?
Gabriel: No. In heaven, we believe in love.
Catherine: What do you love, Gabriel?
Gabriel: Cracking your skull!
I loved that bit of dialogue!
This movie is just one great line after another. Christopher Walken has so much soul. His delivery has a lasting impact that just echos in your head. In my opinion, the very best line/scene was when Thomas and Gabriel had their only heart to heart discussion.
Thomas-"Why did'nt you just ask him? Why did'nt you just ask God?"
Gabriel-"Because, He doesnt....talk to me anymore."
Profound.
Actually that whole scene between Gabriel and Thomas is beautiful when Gabriel's love and jealousy for God is revealed like an open swollen wound.
Thomas-"Cause you hate him, you hate Him just a little bit, cause you jealous. That's what this war is about, jealousy, jealousy that he could love something more than you, something with a soul."
The 2nd best IMO was...
Gabriel- "I will NOT, allow, any...talking monkey...to take my place. I'll burn down Heaven to stop it."
Unbelievable force and power in the delivery of these lines. A person gets the feeling of how powerful an angel has to be from Chris Walkens soulful delivery and intensity.

that was a great one john. I totally agree. This movie was built on immortal one liners that are basically unforgettable.
"Let's go Rachel"
"No"
"Eternity, here, in that sagging skin suit. Or, one more day with me."
"Why?"
"Can't drive...but, I can wait, until the stars burn out, if you don't make up your mind."

“I kill first-borns while their mommas watch. I turn cities into salt. And I even, when I feel like it, rip the souls from little girls. And from now, until Kingdom come, the only thing you can count on, in your entire existence, is never understanding the reasons why.”

That's by far one of my favorites. The way Walken delivers it really sends chills down your spine.
Did you ever read the bible . . .? Did you ever notice how in the bible when God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to -see- an angel?
share"Study your math, kids. Key to the Universe."
share"You want to Come home with me.."
"no"
"I love you, I love You, I love you more than JEEEESUSSSSSSS"
amazing film
I am Providence -- H.P. Lovecraft
"I love you I love you I love you more than Jesusss"
Dozens, maybe hundreds of magnificent lines in this movie. But that one always stuck for me... much for the content of the dialogue, but more the delivery- that low, growling, almost hissing, delivery.
When I go to hell for being an atheist, that's the kind of Lucifer I hope to meet.
Second choice:
Dagget: "Think of the possibilities."
Joseph: "Yeah. You can be impotent and frigid all at the same time."

It was a great line! Especially when he had the blood from Gabriel's heart all over his beard.
