This Movie Caused Me to Have OCD

I'm not lying. I saw it when I was 10 or 11 years old, and saw how the germs spread through the air vent, and had nightmares after that.
Then I became really concerned about germs and getting sick, so I was sanitizing stuff and closed off the vent in my room.
It really blossomed and I started repeating things and counting over and over until I felt safe again.
My parents finally took me to therapy when I was 15, because OCD wasn't as well known back then as now and for a while, they didn't know why I had "weird quirks".
So I'm still in therapy, but am doing much better with meds. I don't blame the movie, though. It was just a catalyst for an underlying problem. If I had not watched it, it would have come out through another movie or a different situation.
Does anyone else have similar problems because of a movie?

I can relate. This movie also gave me nightmares and a horrible fear of disease, and I was a pretty fearless kid. I could watch any ghost or monster movie without being scared but a deadly disease...even a 10 year old knows that *beep* could actually happen!

I don't have OCD, but I am germphobic and somewhat of a hypochondriac.
Like you, I'm don't blame the movie. From what I've learned of myself I've had underlying signs since I was about 4, so if it hadn't been this it would have just been something else that triggered it.

As someone else that lived there, did you notice how certain scenes, the truck chase scene especially, would jump around between Ferndale, Eureka, and Fortuna in a matter of blocks, or even yards? I always get a kick out of spotting it every time I watch this.

I had the opposite reaction, when I realized nothing kills 100%, few viruses really spread this way, Mutaba is not a real disease, nor does it resemble any real disease (although ebola is a close analogue), ebola thrives in tropical climates (not ours) and through fecal contact (we wash our damn hands and don't wallow in our own filth like africans, and have clean water). Also,m viruses that kill within days or weeks are actually not to worry, most will die before infecting others, HIV persists because it takes years to kill you, so it gives you TONS of time to infect others.

When you realize how ridiculous and silly this virus would be--- 100% fatal, briefest of MINOR exposure can infect you, and supposedly kill you within days.... it becomes WAY less scary.

You DO REALIZE OCD is all in your mind--so you are really saying this movie made you crazier than you already were, aren't you???

Do you also realize that some of the most and intelligent and most successful people in human history had or still have OCD?

So - you probably don't know what you're talking about

And you just insulted somebody who came here to share a problem

What an ignorant d##k

This movie didn't affect me negatively, but the movie Ransom made me super paranoid of people. I thought that every stranger I saw on the street was out to kidnap me.
