I'm a fan of this film since i first saw it in 1996. I've seen it about 20 times. It's not only by far DiCillos's best film but also Buscemi's best performance ever. So why isn't there a DVD available? His weaker films "Box of Moonlight" and "Real Blonde" have been released...so why not "Living in Oblivion"?
Yeah... I don't know what it's doïng in th'official triviä that Palamino has nothing to do with Brad Pitt. Considering Johnny Suede, the presence of Catherine Keener, and the resemblance to Pitt in mannerisms and face, how can it be official that it's NOT him? He doesn't come off so badly anyway, just not suited to that type of film-making. It's not as if he wasn't awesome in Twelve Monkeys or Fight Club, just that he cheesed off one independant film-maker, who got some little bit of revenge.
The part of Chad is not a mockery of Brad Pitt at all. Brad Pitt was actually on board to play Chad (by Keener's suggestion) until shortly before that section of the movie was filmed.
Watched about a minute in (after the credits, I mean) and the DVD is so freaking wonky I had to come on here to complain. What the hell did CTHE do here? It looks like somebody ripped and compressed the DVD from a DVD-9 to a DVD-5. The image is so warped that I feel like I am on acid trying to watch it. People's faces float around independantly of their own heads.
OK, the image improves. Or at least, I stopped noticing it because the movie was so awesome.
FYI I had never heard about this before I found it at Big Lots for $3 on DVD. Quality is way up and so glad I found this beaut! Big Lots is the bomb. -bm
