The scene with those college kids.....

I gotta tell ya I really like this movie, and if it's on I usually watch it, but when they get to that scene where Elizabeth shue gets punched by that college kid and then they all have their way with her, I change the channel or fast forward. That scene is too stomach churning for me. I realize it's just a movie, but that scene is just too much for me, anyone else?

reply

That scene actually happens before she meets Ben in the book. If it hadn't happened, she probably wouldn't have met Ben, as the bruising to her face plays an important role in the events leading up to their crossing paths (which has a lot more of Sera's story).

reply

fake rape and violence done to women never bothered me. unless it's graphic, but otherwise, who cares? it doesn't even look real.

reply

Don't watch Irreversible, OP.

reply

Can't believe no one added "Swingers" to that list! "Vegas, baby! Vegas!!!"

"She's, like, a biscuit older than me..."

reply

By the way, sorry to bring this up, but can I just ask, why DID they rape her? I mean, it didn't seem like it was just because they wanted free sex, as most of them seemed apparently not particularly interested. And if it is a reason of violence, then I have to ask: were they really THAT insulted by her comments towards them? And did they plan it originally or did it just spontaneously happen?

reply

They had planned on paying her, having sex with her, and then videotaping the entire event.
The problem was that they wouldn't assent to her 'rules': One boy in the room at a time; no videotaping; and no anal sex.
So, once everything broke down- her talking back to them and pushing one of them away, and then her getting slugged- the aggression escalated to what their minds were set on doing- anal sodomy..

reply

Did those college kids have some kind of mental or sociological problems? Or were they just that desperate for sex?

reply

They may have wanted sex, but it seems that they were interested in something more than that.
Dominion and subjugation of another person.
Rapists tend to be sociopaths: That is without conscience or empathy for others.
The fact that one of the boys insists on having anal sex with Sera indicates a strong fixation or fetish.

The other boys said that it was his "first time", whether it was his first for sex, or with a hooker, or for anal sex we don't know.
Possibly, that indicated that they have done that sort of thing before.

reply

Even though it was somewhat implied that it was his first time to have sex it might aswell had been something they just say.

I don't think those boys had done it before, they just won some money in vegas and decide to do something crazy and raping a girl fits into picture just as well as hiring a girl.

reply

I don't think those boys had done it before, they just won some money in vegas....

How do we know this, was it mentioned in the movie? They could have just come to Las Vegas with money to what they wanted to do.

....and decide to do something crazy and raping a girl fits into picture just as well as hiring a girl...

Uh, no.
Who decides to rape someone as some sort of zany young male-bonding antic?
Raping a hooker is not the same as hiring a hooker.
One is a violent crime and violation of another human being, whereas the other is a transaction of money for sex.

reply

And the difference between rape and sex in terms of feelings and consequences is enormous, because rape also hurts physically and can cause severe bad consequences where prepared consentual sex even with a prostitute doesn't cause that much pain and is liable to lessen the damage, and most people with common sense know that, so I would suppose that they must have somehow got off on hurting her as well!

reply

Did she report the rape to the police? What if they do that to someone else and do you think they did? Or had they somehow stopped and redeemed themselves afterwards?

So it is possible that it was a pre-meditated act and that they just waited for the right moment?

What did you think of the movie?

reply

I don't understand why the little guy was so abusive and angry to her??

reply

Also, what if Sera was still with Yury and he went along and acted like a guard outside the door while she went out with those college kids? Would Yuri and his few other guards somehow manage to help her, and stop those kids from doing the dastardly deed?

And would Yuri either kill them or report them to the police, or just beat them up badly?

reply

Often times prostitutes have pimps because the pimps provide protection for them.
But it seemed that Yuri would often have Sarah go off to work without him being a lookout.
Maybe that was because he was preoccupied with his debt situation, and would otherwise have been on watch.

I doubt Yuri would report them to the police, likely they would get beaten and/or robbed.

ron,

You don't appear mature enough to appreciate films. What makes you think people "get off on something like this"

Bad things happen to good people sometimes. Films reflect that.

Do you only watch movies where good things happen to everyone?

Did you watch Saving Private Ryan and complain people got shot?

"Bltch, what you DON'T know about me -- I can just about squeeze into the Grand xxxxing Canyon!"
