Behold!.....the single worst song ever
I loved this movie but the opening song is just absolutly deplorable. If carlos Santana was dead he would come back from the dead just to kill the awful singes on this track.

shareI pretty much don't have a dog in this fight.
I hate Rusted Root just slightly less than Carlos Santana. But I will say it's a pretty crummy opening theme for a pretty cool movie.
I will say that I'm not generally a fan of covers, and while this isn't the worst I've heard (that would be Billy Bob Thornton's cover of "I Walk the Line" probably), it does reinforce my general hatred of hippie jam bands.
However, here are some much better covers I like:
Lou Reed's cover of "This Magic Moment" by Jay & The Americans
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds cover of "Helpless" by Neil Young
Ryan Adams' cover of "Wonderwall" by Oasis
Asobi Seksu's cover of "Then He Kissed Me" by The Crystals
The Gipsy Kings' cover of "Hotel California" by The Eagles
Faye Wong's cover of "Dreams" by The Cranberries.
I think those are all from movies, too. A shiny nickel to anyone that can match each song with the movie it's on the soundtrack for.
100% agree!!! The Rusted Root version sucks, big time! They absolutely ruin the song. Listening to the Rusted Root version is like listening to fingernails scraping on a blackboard, only multiplied by twenty times or more! The instrumental part of it is okay, but just okay. The vocalizing is what is so awful! I don't know what to call this vocalizing but it is certainly NOT singing! And the pronunciation of words is atrocious! (What the heck is a "BAY BAY?" As opposed to saying it properly as "baby)." I majored in music so I know good music when I hear it and I know bad when I hear it and this is BAD! Jodie Foster evidently has no ear for music whatsoever because this is not music at all it's just horribly annoying noise! Long live Santana's version of Evil Ways! (I really don't care too much for that either but it's light years ahead of this s**t). Every time I watch this movie I mute the opening credits because I can't stand to listen to that sewage!. Awful, just awful!!!
sharehahahaha!! i'm glad i'm not the only one who hates the opening song. it's HORRIBLE!! what was jodie foster thinking?! it throws you off for a bit, it's so awful.
shareJust out of curiosity, what would you say is the single best song ever?
shareOh now come on, that is a minefield if I ever heard one. I tend to stick to classic rock and rarely listen to much made after 2000 aside from a few groups I like. When I say worst song ever I am merely exaggerating the horrific nature of that opening song. Beatles, Zeppelin, Stones, Metallica, Motorhead etc.
Ever hear of a ritual killing? (Uncle Buck)
I thought it was ridiculous at first. ESPECIALLY compared to the Santana original. But when I thought about it, it was perfect for the movie. The music is smooth and sassy, (main character) and the voice is off kilter (the family!) So, in a way, I guess it has it's own little horrible charm like 80s hair and 90s couches.
Don't wake me 'cuz I'm dreamin' of angels on the moon...
Really?? I love the opening song!
