It says on this site that it was during the filming of this movie that Robert Downey Jr. went public about his drug problem and that completing this film was problematic because of that, but you know what? Whatever Robert was smoking, he still gives the best performance in this uneven movie and is the strongest reason for watching it...anyone agree?
ive always been a rdj fan, and collect his movies. so far my favorite is 2 girls and a guy...simply because of his singing. he had such an unbelievable voice!
RDJ is definitely the best thing about this movie, IMHO.
I don't care if he acts stoned or sober. I don't care one whit about his drug use so far as his acting goes because he has done his best work while high apparently. I do care if it were hurting himself personally (and here I don't mean the court stuff; I mean in other ways), but I think he was used too much as a fall guy by the system for the 'war' on drugs, which still, despite all the dollars thrown into in and all the people thrown in jail for nothing more than drug charges, is a dismal failure.
So far as the rest of the movie: There are some funny parts in it, and David S. does well as the gloomy local, but overall I found the rest of the characters simplistic caricatures and frankly seemed to be bashing of ‘back home’ family members (as opposed to urban chic). Any generosity paid to Claudia’s family of origin came across more as pitying what is perceived as poor, crazy, simpleminded yokels, and from a rather immature viewpoint. Not the fault of the actors; it's the material they were given.
he always delivered beautifully, good he's clean now, but seems never was an issue when it came to his performance. And I like much more all the movies he used to do back then than Ironman and all he's doing now. I used to be a huge fan back in the 90s, glad he's doing fine and got so famous, but he was way a better actor, more refined back in the 80 and 90s
