Powerline = Michael Jackson?

anyone else see the resemblance?

I always thought more Prince (or the artist formerly known as) rather than Michael Jackson. In either case, I think the music is great.

I think it's a bit of both. And why not? Michael is the king of pop, and Prince is good too.

Yes, it's true! IMDB has reached Sweden!

reply

I can see where the dance moves may trick people into thinking it's like Jackson but the voice and the theme of the music is way closer to Prince.

Life's a bitch that's why I married her!

reply

Yeah I thought that to.

reply

I think Powerline seems more like a cross of Prince and Michael Jackson. And I don't wanna sound racist, but it almost seemed like Powerline was the only African-American character in the movie, unless I didn't catch any others.

I don't think he was more African-American than any other character.

Yes, it's true! IMDB has reached Sweden!

reply

Well his skin was darker and he was also voiced by an African-American singer.

reply

Was his skin really darker? Well, maybe... It was a while since I saw this movie now.

reply

I always thought Powerline sounded like Prince.

reply

I agree. Sometimes he sounds like Prince, and sometimes he sounds like Michael. Besides, I think "I2I" sounds more like something Prince would sing.

reply

a singer with the voice of michael jackson, the appearance of mc hammer, and the lyrics of prince. aka the perfect man.

Actually he sounded like Tevin Campbell to me. No, really I never thought of comparing him to anyone. I just knew it was Tevin, because of his great voice so that was it. I guess the character is like both of them a little, and yeah Hammer too.

I am the prototype

I don't think you could describe this film as racist. After all, the main characters are all dogs!

And yes, I thought of Michael Jackson when I first heard Powerline.

reply

I actually think his songs sound more like Prince, in the car the guitar riffs sound like something Prince would play, but in the movie he doesn't play the guitar. I conclude he is a perfect mix of Michael and Prince.

reply

Yeah i think everyone see's it, unless your from a country who dont know him LOL but he is kind of cool, unlike Michael Jackson!
Sorry Michael Jackson lovers! x

reply

He came off as more sexual than MJ, so in that way I think more like Prince. Then again his overall look and dance moves (the backward dancing was very moonwalk) seemed more MJ esque.

To me its seems as though Powerline is an infusion of Michael Jackson, Prince, MC Hammer,

reply

Fusion of PRince and MJ.

reply

i agree!

FYI (according to Wikipedia):

The songs "I 2 I" and "Stand Out" were performed by R&B singer Tevin Campbell, and co-written by Prince

So ironic lol.

Vocal-wise = Michael Jackson , Guitar-wise = Prince , Dance-wise= M.C.Hammer.
Powerline's costume , on the other hand , is totally stolen from DEVO!

And by-the-by kids...Goofy , Max , Powerline , etc... are DOGS! ( So , unless in your day-to-day activities you call your dog "African-American"...that particular point is MOOT! )

Yes he's MJ, Prince and MC Hammer all rolled into one including Devo (I'm such an 80's kid and 90's teen with my knowledge).

No

reply

Yeah I also thought it had some Prince in there but mostly Michael Jackson. Even the main song he sings has very similar lyrics and themes with MJ songs like "Leave me alone".

reply

^^ I agree, he was definetely a combo of Prince, MJ & MC Hammer with that Devo outfit to boot.

reply

sonically...he has a Prince aesthetic...but his celebrity as portrayed in the movie is definitely more Michael Jackson...along with the dance moves
