Jimmy Cap just let’s Chili go?

The film just assumes that with Bones gone, Jimmy Cap just let’s Chili go into the movie business.

Wouldn’t he have insisted he stayed as a loan shark and not allow him to leave without permission?

Jimmy probably wanted Chili to stay on his books. If so, I'm sure Chili would be much more valuable the family as a movie producer than a loan shark. There was nothing about him getting out of the family, just that he wanted to stay in L.A.

I don’t understand. So he stayed as a loan shark or did he involve the mob in his movie business?

reply

I have no idea as it's not a question the movie answers. Maybe the book provides some details.

I'm just saying, loan sharks are a dime-a-dozen. Any average tough guy can collect on a debt. Having a movie producer working for the family could offer opportunities for Jimmy that he wouldn't have access to otherwise. It would make sense, if Chili was still working for the family, that Jimmy let him stay in L.A. Jimmy seemed to like Chili too, so maybe he just let him walk.
