Was it necessary for Sam to fire Don all because he wasn't taking it seriously about 3 people winning in 20 minutes?

Don felt Sam was overreacting about 3 people winning big money in 20 minutes and felt that people should win sometimes, Sam didn't approve of it and ended up firing Don, I don't think Don deserved getting fired all over a bunch of people winning big money at the casino.

Sam spent years in Nevada chaffing from the locals sneering at his bloodline and background. Ward was the opportunity to blow off steam personally but Sam should have put business ahead of that. Don should have been promoted to food taster or pillow tester with a 10 percent pay increase to keep Webb happy.

Good point t that never occurred to me. It was even foreshadowed by Sam's earlier rant about Ward failing to clean up his station and having the temerity to call him "Sam."

That last bit, and Ward's warning, "you may regret this," makes me wonder how far "down the trough" Sam could've placed Ward without offending Ward's sense of entitlement. Maybe he'd consider "blueberry counter" too beneath him, whatever the pay, and go whining to his uncle.

Or not. We'll never know because Sam blew his one chance (that we're shown) to get in tighter with the locals.

Don wasn't cut out for the job.

I wouldn't have. Due to Don being connected. Sam didn't need anyone looking into his business. Starting a fracas with a guy like Don would lead to others becoming involved. Plus if I remember correctly Sam knew Don had connections in high places. It might have been a bit better like this.

"Don, I appreciate everything you do here - but I think I've found a better position for you....."

Then make him a waiter or something. If someone came sniffing around you can actually tell him the truth of the matter - meaning the infinitesimal probability of what happened on Don's watch (3 winners - right in a row).

The other party most likely would understand placing Don in a different position.
