Did Nicky and Dominick die from the beating or being buried alive?
Or both? Discuss. I don't think anybody would have survived that vicious beat down. Nicky/Tony was a badass, but no.

Beat them within a inch of there lives then buried them alive.
shareThey certainly would have died from the beating anyway, although it's hard to say how long they would have lived if they hadn't been buried. Maybe a few minutes or even hours.

Despite the narration, it's obvious that Dominic was already dead. No twitching, no coughing, nothing.
shareBoth, I think.
shareThat scene alone made me never want to watch this movie again. I never understand how people rave about how great Casino is. It was beyond disturbing.
shareI wouldn't call it "great", but I enjoyed it more after several viewings. I used to consider this as Goodfellas pt.2, but now I can safely say it stands on its' own as a fine picture. My biggest qualm is the overuse of music.
shareThe overuse of music makes the baseball beating stand out more.
shareIt is supposed to be disturbing it is about the real life murder of those 2 men.
shareI really enjoy the movie !
But yeah ill never watch the baseball beating scene again ! Way to horrific !
its also true and happened
shareIt's NOT true.
Autopsies of the Spilotro brothers, even in their advanced state of decomposition, showed blood in their lungs but no dust, dirt or detritus consistent with being buried alive. The blood was, however, consistent with death by asphyxiation versus solely by blunt trauma.
As for the film, they went to the trouble of showing Nicky moving and breathing as they buried them, so yes, they died from being buried alive.
It's consistent enough with the horrible reality of the "true" version, where they were allowed to live and suffer after they'd been beaten beyond survivability, asphyxiating on their own blood.
They crawled back and became actors.
