Agree, it's way better than anything he ever did all the way until The Revenant.
He's incredible in this one, I expected a rating more like 8,0.

100% . That scene where Reggie kept him in the room , all I could say is wow he played some part in this . Whalberg was pretty good too

Second best after Gilbert Grape. The Revenant sucked.

Definitely his best role, I remember watching it as a kid before he was a household name and his performance making a big impression on me, especially the cold turkey scene.

I don't keep up with awards but when all the memes and stuff came around saying he'd never won an oscar I couldn't believe it, I thought he surely had won one for the basketball diaries!

He’s good, but I do feel the weak film hobbles him. His best role? I’d go with What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? with The Departed, Marvin’s Room and The Wolf of Wall Street as honourable mentions.

I was never a big fan of his, but he did do some good acting in this. Although I dont feel the film is as good as I heard it was. I loved seeing many of the actors from the sopranos, and surprised to see Michael Rappaport briefly in it, but the film itself was tedious in too many scenes. I watched it for the first time tonight. its 2024
