Is this movie too 'white' to be made today?

When Apollo 13 was made, the lack of diversity was probably not given a second thought. This was history, and accuracy rules. I find it hard to believe that this 'very white male' movie would be green lit (let alone given a blockbuster budget )in 2018.

The US is increasingly becoming more diverse, and Hollywood is rightly looking to reflect this diversity. So I am glad that they got movie in the can before Hollywood could say...Good story but too much white male!

It's time for a black Werner van Brown.

"This was history, and accuracy rules."

Well, we've had black Anne Boleyn, black Cleopatra, black Agatha Christie's husband, and other abominations of casting, so apparently historical accuracy doesn't rule.

What they would do if this film came out today is stick a bunch of minorities into the mission control room. A fat black woman instead of Ron Howard's brother would be a start. Then a weird Indian guy would be the one who comes up with the solution to fix the filtration unit. Ed Harris would be a trans. Things like that.
