Curious what my fellow Bob & David fans are watching on tubes these days, of the "cult comedy" variety, to get their sketch comedy (or just alternative comedy) fix?
I was watching "Wonder Showzen" and "Tim & Eric Awesome Show" while they were showing new ones. Not too much more beyond that. Also been re-watching "Arrested Development" on IFC.
Wonder Showzen is cool, however i still find myself watching a lot of older shows especially Mr. Show, Twin Peaks, That 70s Show, Kids In The Hall and a lot of stand up. I hate todays television, 90% percent of the shows are crap, it seems like America is too celebrity obsessed and there are far too many murder mystery shows and even 2020 and dateline about EVERY show is a murder mystery style show. Luckily I dont have cable now, save money, and if i want to kill time i'll read a book or watch a dvd
Kids in the Hall is just utter genius...I've always thought of three core sketch comedy shows as sort of the "holy trinity" of sketch comedy. Monty Python's Flying Circus, Mr. Show, Kids in the Hall...all three were complete brilliance incarnate. I had the pleasure of seeing the Kids in Hamilton Place (I think it was Hamilton anyway, maybe it was London but it was some time back and I was pretty high at the time so...yeah) when they were doing the "same guys, new dresses" tour...I've seen a few comedy shows and only two others pop to mind besides that which were as funny and they weren't sketch comedy, I saw George Carlin at the same venue a couple years later and scored some tickets to see Henry Rollins do a show in Toronto. I'm glad I got to see Carlin before the guy died, funniest guy on the planet.

I don't watch it for the comedy, and you're right, it's not very funny. Although Brian Posehn has made a few appearances in the last few years. But it's not even funny with his parts in it.
The funniest show *PERIOD* on TV today is Britain's Peep Show, which stars comedians David Mitchell and Robert Webb. Although they only (primarily) star on the show. They have their own show, "That Mitchell and Webb Look," which won a BAFTA for best comedy, and is the best sketch show on TV.
Here is a sketch that vaguely reminds me of the "Monsters of Megaphone" sketch from Mr. Show.
I think The Sarah Silverman show sucks big time. I loved her on Mr. Show, they have some cool cameos on there but SO MUCH of her humor is immature body humor and failing sarcasm "OH LOOK I MADE A POOPIE!!!!" *insert laugh track here*. The only episode i genuinely enjoyed was the episode where her neighbors got obsessed with the soda Tab, i admit i chuckled a bit at that episode.
And the USA Office? You gotta be kidding me. Ricky Gervais MADE that show, the new guy seems like a lame imitation and his character is so ridiculous its not believable. What made Ricky Gervais great is because him and his humor is believable, there really are some bosses and office workers that are silly like that (and id like to think im one of them!). To each his own though so cheers (raises beer glass)
