Do you feel this movie is that bad?

And that it genuinely ranks among Steven Seagal's very worst including his modern DTV output post 2010, thanks.

Yes.

No, in fact it's message is more relevant today than it ever has been with the increase in natural disasters around the globe due to carbon pollution.

🤣

Y E S

I haven't seen any of his DTV stuff but still.

It's a great movie (one of his biggest in scope) and whilst I actually prefer a lot of his DTV stuff over *some* of his cinema output, I will admit that ODG is a little preachy in places (but I guess that's what makes Seagal...Seagal?) But it's counterbalanced by some nice Seagal-ultra-violence near the end.

Although, given it's themes...I'm surprised the green-mob haven't latched onto it in recent years, though?

I think most environmentalists would be wary of a film where the hero saves the Alaskan wilderness by blowing up an oil rig, which realistically would have had pretty bad consequences.

Fire Down Below would make a bit more sense for environmentalists to highlight. It lacks most of the goofy entertainment value of On Deadly Ground IMO but it's the closest thing Seagal had to a "normal" movie.

But at the end of the day neither film goes much into environmental problems, they're just the backdrop for why the villain is bad and Seagal must defeat him. Plus Seagal's reputation as an action hero star has been firmly lodged in the toilet for about 20 years at this point, and his politics (at least nowadays) are conservative, in contradiction to the bulk of environmentalists.

Yes. This had a decent budget and was widely theatrically released. His straight to DVD is near unwatchable low budget crap, but at least the producers know not to release it in theatres.

reply

How would we also rate it out of 10?

reply

God, this movie is crap. I know Michael Caine has appeared in some stinkers, but wow.

reply

And in this case a very silly and highly brainless action movie to boot with an overall wooden actor Steven Seagal at the helm.

reply

I think it's reasonably entertaining. It's after 2001 that Seagal's output starts being really boring.

That being said, "entertaining" and "good" aren't synonymous. It's a goofy movie and you can tell Seagal's ego was given almost free rein, yet I think that just makes it more amusing to gawk at, alongside the over the top villains and good ol' violence.
