Would anyone else have chosen Alfred?
Alfred is awesome and I'd have chosen him over Tristan any day. You?

shareI would have chosen Alfred.
I like Tristan but Alfred is an absolute sweetheart. Tristan is a wild, free spirit. I don't think he would have been happy living a settled down life like Alfred. In the end I don't think he and Susannah would have been happy together.
I don't think Alfred should have married Susannah because he knew she was in love with Tristan. However Alfred does care about her and wants to look after her, he tries to make her happy.
It is my business to protect your majesty.... against all things.
Nope. Tristan all day every day. Thanks! :)
Snakes. Why'd it have to be snakes?
When I was a kid, I really would have preferred Alfred over Tristan. But as a married woman, I see Alfred for what he is - needy, obsessive, and full of himself. While Tristan has issues, at least he owns them the best way he can. Alfred acted like a complete fool when he knew full well she wasn't interested in him. He foolishly convinced her to marry him knowing she wasn't in love with him. And he was able to do it because she was alone with no one to stand up for her and no place to go.
Apart from that, I too agree that Isabelle was a much better match then Susannah for Tristan. They "got each other".
And finally, I also agree that the biggest reason for Susannah's suicide was lack of children, that's made clear several times during the movie. She knew full well Tristan didn't want her and wouldn't take her after she admitted she wanted Isabelle dead. It was a burden she was releasing before she killed herself.
susannah suited him more. Isabel was a child in both the book and movie. He came back to marry susannah. He loved her passionately whereas his marriage to isabel was a facade.
It seems both lived in a facade after he returned from his voyage.
Why would any woman choose a sexy, intense, handsome man with Paul Newman's eyes, a man who is devoted, responsible, intelligent, kind, and madly in love with her? She'd have to be crazy.
sharethere's something super annoying about alfred's voice - it's soooooo damn DRIPPY. bordering on sonny bono's voice. i could not handle that for more than a day...
tristan was the best looking brother (by far) but was self-centered. he left susannah high & dry - to the point where she pined away for him instead of having children (by the time he returned, she was probably past her prime childbearing years). gee, thanks tristan...
samuel was sweet & well-educated, but in a way he was selfish for leaving his fiancee to go fight (& die) in europe...
imho, none of those fictional brothers were a "catch"

My, yes !!!
It's too bad that they felt that they had to darken Aiden Quinn's hair so much because his natural hair color would have made him look more pleasing and vulnerable. Aiden has a very sweet spirit about him, sweeter than Brad Pitt in my opinion.
Flanagan
NO!!!!
shareNo way Tristan was much better looking more mysterious and more fun than dull boring Alfred!
