Third best movie of the 90s

Behind only American Beauty and Schindler's List.

Not Pulp Fiction (the 7th best)
Not Shawshank (8th best)
Not Goodfellas (9th best)
Not Fight Club (#32)
Not American History X (#64)
and DEFINITELY not Forrest Gump (#132), The Matrix (#156) or Terminator 2 (#202).

Agreed.

Forrest Gump, The Matrix and Terminator 2 were all hopelessly overrated.

Heavenly Creates was light years better than those films. I'd place it in my top five films of the 90s.

Where would life is beautiful feature

I'm not as big a fan of Life Is Beautiful. It's a good film, but I never considered it great.

I can't tell you exactly where I ranked Life Is Beautiful, 'cause I lost my list! I have to rebuild it. I'll try to get back to you.

I remember that when I came out of the theatre after watching this I thought to myself "this is the best movie I've ever seen". Twenty years later I think that still holds true, although I'd find it hard to pick either this or Goodfellas over the other.

Definitely one of the best films of the 90's. It's easily better than Shawshank (good, but overrated), American History X (simplistic and unconvincing), and Forrest Gump (piece of shit). I'd say it's a tad better than Terminator 2, American Beauty, and The Matrix, but not as good as Fight Club, Goodfellas, and Pulp Fiction. Haven't seen Schindler's List yet.

Some other 90's flicks it surpasses include Good Will Hunting (no idea why this is considered a classic), Heat (cliché and superficial), The Sixth Sense (good, but overrated), and Se7en (again, good but overrated).

reply

I feel Heavenly Creatures is way underrated.

reply

I agree with you about two out of three of those films!

"American Beauty" was nothing special.

reply

I wouldn't consider Schindler's to be anything special. American Beauty is a good film but not best of the decade either.

Umm...Trainspotting? Hello!?
