How long would have Brandon Lee's career have lasted if he had lived?

In a way, he could've became the next big action star. Hard to say so early in his career, but it's The Crow is definitely a cult classic and that's gotta say something about any potential he may have had. He probably would've done the sequels. I could see him doing some action movies. They'd either be very memorable or some real stinkers. He'd probably dive into obscurity as a voice actor or something.

He probably would still be an actor now

I don't think Brandon Lee's star would have ever soared too high. He would have had a couple hype movies after The Crow. Projects aimed at the MTV generation. Quite possibly he may have appeared in an ensemble romantic comedy. He was honestly a little odd looking to be among the likes of Leo and Pitt and other breakout stars of the 90s. I think he would have turned out a solid run of direct to video movies in the vein of Rapid Fire. If I had to equate his potential career to another actor's I'd say it would most likely have mirrored Patrick Swayze's. A little something for the men, a little something for the ladies, always remembered for his hey day, but somehow never popular again though working steady for another 20 years.

And why do you think all of that "straight to video" stuff, because in your opinion he was "odd looking"? Leo is odd looking, Pitt is odd looking IMO so just curious your reasoning for your opinion here if you have one. I would think he would have been huge because he was such a good actor.

Brandon was beautiful. Not everyone thinks Leo and Pitt are the greatest thing to ever happen to movies you know.

I think alot of potential was there and I think he could have gone far.

yup and he had charm from his father and probably audience would like him until now

i think he would've been a huge star who may have been on par with dicaprio or depp or at least performances worthy of comparison. i remember reading some of his interviews where he wasn't too enamored being in martial arts films, mainly trying to get away from his father's legacy. of course, being a son of a martial arts legend, that sort of led him into action roles.

after rapid fire, lee's role in the Crow seem more of a departure from the typical action flick. true, the crow is an action flick but, i wouldn't compare it to something like van dam or segal movies. it's probably more like Schwarzenegger's predator to terminator 2. hell, watch some of his early interviews; brandon is wise beyond his age - probably the only real contrast with his father who delved into philosophical matters.

it's a tragedy we'll never know, but i would suspect a bright future, probably taking on big budget offbeat roles and the occasional martial arts/action flicks

Brandon would have had a good career. He received a lot of praise from the movie, especially by Roger Ebert who said he already passed his dad acting wise and he was bound for a major career if he had not died.

I think he would have been a hybrid actor, one that does all types of films. He would have possibly had a cameo in the sequel. I could have seen him in the Matrix as well.

reply

I always thought that would have been cool too. He could have played a number of the Matrix characters too. I mean he would have made a great Neo but he also could have possibly played Agent Smith, Morpheus, or Seraph.

at best...keanue reeves/jet li

at worst....a few hyped up movies then fade away into oblivion, doph lundren, moey *beep* nassif etc

reply

Funny you aay that. I have both books that came out in the 90s on the 1st two films and in the city of angels book it states that Brandon was contracted to do, I believe, TWO sequels! I don't have the book in front of me, but he WAS to be in the 2nd film.

reply

I think he would have been a success as he had so many qualities as an actor.

Just imagine if Bruce and Brandon were both alive then they could have been in the Expendables together.

reply

If he had not died the movie would not be THAT much of a cult classic and people would complain more about it not sticking to the graphic novel. Some would love the movie, some wouldn't, but Brandon Lee's death CERTAINLY added to the cult status, especially among the gothic crowd. Brandon Lee would still be an actor, but certainly not the next actior star. The movie probably would have been the peak of his career.

reply

I think Brandon would've made a few action flicks to garner further recognition for himself, then once that happened, he'd have made some independents, because he seemed to be a pretty decent actor. As an aside, to the poster who called Brandon Lee odd-looking in comparison to the likes of Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio, I hope you meant no harm in that statement, but using two white blond men as an example of better-looking people than one who's mixed-race comes across as racist.

reply

lol checkerbird can of worms there.

although those 2 blonde white men ARE better looking than brandon. although brandons no ugg-boot....

reply

I think he would have had done a few high-profile action movie box office hits, and ultimately been a quite respectable B-list actor and worked steadily.

Everyone, it's conjecture, all a matter of speculation. You can't say he would've been the next big thing, or had faded into obscurity after a couple of crappy movies/TV shows. Truth is, there's no way to know. I think he had the talent, the looks, the moves, and of course his father's name to certainly get his foot in the door, but who knows where he could've gone with it or if he was talented enough to make a long lasting career. But either way, it doesn't matter, because he is long dead and buried. It's unfortunate, I did like The Crow when it came out(not just because he died making it), and I thought he had at least a little talent. But what could've been was not meant to be, and that is that.

Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go
