I was almost or had just turned 13 when I got this on VHS in 1994. I watched it almost every day, for months and months. I quoted lines from the movie all the time and probably made everyone around me sick with that. The humor was perfect for me just in the middle of puberty. Haha..anyone else?
shareIt was and is funny. Maybe I didnt realize Jim Carrey had no depth at that point in his career. Dumb and Dumber was better. Also I think Major Pain has stood the test of time better.
shareI remember watching this all the time as a kid. It is so funny. Great replay value. Very quotable. I love the sequel too. Ace Ventura is such a great character.

When Ace sacks the bird mascot and starts beating the crap out of him.
After he realizes Lois is actually Ray Finkle and begins burning his clothes and crying in the shower.
When Ace walks by the guy playing the violin and makes him mess up.
I liked it as a kid, but started feeling sick about it after understanding all the sex jokes (I was a very sheltered child). When you really think about it, the basic plot of the film is pretty sickening; only Jim's performance makes it tolerable.
shareI was 9 when this movie came out on video and I was obsessed with this movie, "The Mask" and "Batman Forever."
I would always wear a Hawaiian shirt unbuttoned with a white undershirt tucked in and blue jeans and even style my hair like Ace's on the weekends.
I used to have movie posters of the 2nd movie all over my wall when it came out.
I also would talk really fast when telling a story and also say "All right, take care now. Bye bye then." and slam the door. I think I would chuckle like he did.
I think I got over that sometime right after I turned 11.
I still adore both "The Mask" and "Batman Forever"; have them both on Blu-Ray, too. I also found the score for "The Mask" on CD; its highly underrated in my opinion.
shareOh I absolutely loved this film as a kid (I was 10 when it came out). I used to quote the film endlessly and would even emulate Ace's mannerisms.
I watched the film again recently and - save for the transphobic humor at the end - feel it still holds up. In my opinion, a good comedy film should have a solid story to complement the actor's comedic talents, that way the jokes come naturally throughout.
It was our fave as kids and still is in the fave 90s movies!!! My son is 7 and loves loves ace
