Tarantino should be ashamed.

I know it's never popular to speak negatively about a movie on here, but my god, after watching every other one of Tarantino's films (up to Django) and loving them, this one was pitiful.

Patricia Arquette (who plays Alabama) is just about the worst actress I have ever seen in my life. How she managed to continue her acting career after this movie is beyond me.

Anyway, the script itself is pretty good, and the rest of the cast (aside from Arquette) is outstanding. But it's really very obvious that Tarantino did not direct this film himself, because there is no way he would have let it turn out this bad.

The characters seem as if they would have been really deep and complex, but it's as if Tony Scott came and stomped on all of them to flatten them out to make it more palatable for general audiences. There's no mystery behind the characters, no intrigue.

But dammit, I kept rooting for Alabama to get killed in any one of those shoot outs because then I wouldn't have to listen to Arquette's horrible voice anymore.

You want irony? It's the only Tarantino movie I truly enjoy.

I've seen all QT's films except this one which I just finished. I didn't connect with any of the characters & thought the film was just "eh". I'd love to see a QT-directed version & see how it would have been. The dialogue was QT all the way. I give it a 5 out of 10.
And what was up with the music? The overuse of what sounded like a Xylophone or a merry-go-round? Not a film I'll watch again for sure.

You people are fools...

Read Tarantino's original script. It has a different tone.

Tony Scott's direction is totally what made this movie great, in my opinion.

Agree 100%. Plus the way TS shot movies really brought the film to life in a way QT would not have, especially then.

I love most QT movies but this is my favorite and it has a lot to do with TS's direction.

reply

^^^ exactly. My favorite performances ever from Gary Oldman, Patricia Arquette, & James Gandolfini, but top notch from everyone involved. Absolutely brilliant handling of Tarantino's screenplay.
Kinda makes me wish he'd explore distributing them to more directors just to see what happens.

Same here. This is one of my all time favorite movies, and I am not a Tarantino fan. However, I do mention his name to get others to watch the movie with me!

reply

Amen to that True Romance and Reservoir Dogs are the only films by Tarantino I always enjoy re-watching, I liked most of his others but I always find myself either hating them or loving them when I re-watch them must depend on my mood

Django Unchained blows it out of the water.

this could be his best work (directing and writing) next to pulp fiction, you are so wrong, the rage is so genuine in here

reply

I doubt this is his best work but I wouldn't go that far as saying he should be ashamed.

reply

Did anybody think Alabama didn't say much?
