Sly digs at political correctness
This may be a standard 90s sci- fi /action movie, but it also has some sharp attacks on political correctness. The film's makers were obviously commenting on contemporary society and imagining what would happen if we took things to the most ridiculous level in the 21st century. In the film swearing is banned , as well as sexual intercourse. Sandra Bullock's character was repulsed at the idea of physical contact with a man, even kissing! One wonders if that could be where we are heading given the current state of gender politics. Food for thought.
