Sly digs at political correctness

This may be a standard 90s sci- fi /action movie, but it also has some sharp attacks on political correctness. The film's makers were obviously commenting on contemporary society and imagining what would happen if we took things to the most ridiculous level in the 21st century. In the film swearing is banned , as well as sexual intercourse. Sandra Bullock's character was repulsed at the idea of physical contact with a man, even kissing! One wonders if that could be where we are heading given the current state of gender politics. Food for thought.

If we're headed for any kind of pseudo-utopian society, I'd imagine it would resemble more the Brave New World.

I agree, I think BNW was almost prophetic. Only thing Huxley got wrong is the technology and, as a consequence, caste system. We won't need Deltas and Epsilons given the developments in robotics and AI.

But from the sociological perspective, it might be spot on.

I know, right? That was always a GREAT part about this movie. So much fun laughing at the jabs... then sad living and watching them come true.

It was a comedy seeing this when it first came out, watching it now it's like a dystopian horror show! 😂

I just hope it doesn't end up as a documentary... 😁

I think we are going to be ok. A huge chunk of America that isn't 18-25 years old sees political correctness as laughable yet dangerous, and it's already recognized as the cancer that it is. What the young liberals don't realize is that equality and political correctness aren't the same,yet they view them as the same. This is why nobody takes them seriously that isn't in their immediate demographic. Eventually it would be impossible to not offend someone, and at that point nobody will care if they do. It's getting real close already.

I don't think so. The right is fairly tolerant and just shrugs and thinks about something else when things get canceled. The left (most woketards) are intolerant and unforgiving, and they won't let a politically incorrect slight go until it's crushed. They're tenacious if nothing else.

weirdly, I'm still trying to find "the left". i see tons of videos of people shredding the left's theories and bashing their silly notions (and I agree), but is there also a counter area of right theory shredding and bashing videos? I don't see them, and dont know how it could be shredded anyway.

any hints on finding the left? i seem to disagree with left a ton, but this is more out of curiosity than anything
