I noticed a recurring theme in the movie

"spoilers ahead"

Carlitos kept getting betrayed by the people that were close to him. Lalin, Kleinfield, Pachanga. I think the only person he would trust, was Gail. And that's because she wasn't a part of that life.

reply

Yes, that's right. It's most notable at the end when his brother looks over his dying body and says something like, "Sorry, bro. I gotta look out for myself now, I know you understand." In that world people will turn on you once they feel you're screwed.

reply

They weren't literally brothers, unless you meant like a "brothers in arms" sort of thing". But well said.

reply

Oh yes, I don't know why I typed that. I remember when he asked him to hang around and look out for him, they weren't related.

reply

Nope.
The theme is:
Carlitos is trying to change life, hence he keeps getting betrayed by the people that were close to him.

All these friends are part of that street that keeps pulling him back in.

🤔

reply

There is no honor among thieves.

reply

Yeah that was very well done. I've always loved the last hour of this movie in particular.
