Talk about over rated
People seem to go on about this movie like it's one of the best horror films ever made, when in reality, it's just a trashy, boring B grade movie.

shareYou're mistaking this for Evil Dead 2, which has a high rating. This never achieved that kind of following. Apparently some people don't like it, which is hard to get my head around.
"He's dusted, busted and disgusted, but he's ok"
Army of Darkness' appeal is this - if you're a male, this is the movie you would have made when you were 10 years old. It's a backyard movie with a million dollar budget (and actual talent).
"He makes me laugh, he'a always humping and pointing at Reese Witherspoon." - rebschucks
You are either a fan of Evil Dead, or you're not. Being a fan on my side, I absolutely love the transition this trilogy made from total horror, to humour. This movie is not for everyone, and no one asked to like it. But yeah, I talk high about this movie as I talk high about the Evil Dead trilogy in the whole.
shareThis was never an horror movie, it's more fantasy/comedy than anything else.
This is also the sort of thing you might have enjoyed if you were a kid or teenager when it first came out and you watched soon after. I don't think this is the kind of thing today's young people, used to all the cgi and over the top action, might enjoy. Nor is it, most likely, something you'll enjoy much if you watch it for the first time as an adult.
I saw it for the first time when I was 20 on DvD and at first I found it a bit of a let down after 1 & 2 but have grown to love it over the years. I showed it to my nephews and they loved it and they were born a good decade after it came out.
The Evil Dead trilogy is one of the most unique Trilogies ever and if you have no scope then its not for you.
Some people have no sense of multi-genre, they can't accept anything unless its straight up horror, or action etc. Probably why another one of my faves 'Big Trouble in Little China' flopped.
There are always exceptions, of course. I'm glad some of the younger folks can enjoy it too. And it's not like all people of my generation, who got to watch it when it first came out, liked it. It's always strange to me when people talk about AoD and the ED trilogy in general as some niche thing that only recently gained popularity; here in Europe it's been popular since the beginning. I don't know many people my age who didn't watch it back then and most enjoyed it well enough. Not all, of course. My then bf and I used to quote AoD all the time. After years of this, a friend of ours finally had the guts to tell us he hated the movie, it was a terrible horror movie - he thought. We had to explain that he'd been completely missing the point. And another lost soul saw the light! :)
Big Trouble is another favourite of mine. It flopped? I had no idea, it's pretty well known around here too. I actually don't care much about either horror or comedy, but put the 2 together and I'm sold. Dead Alive (Braindead) is another gem from about the same time.
I've never heard this described as one of the best horror movies. It isn't. Its one of the funnest action-adventure, fantasy, B-Movies ever made though.
Someone calling a movie overrated who doesn't even know overrated is one word not two loses all credibility in his argument.
shareAmen! Couldnt agree more!

No they don't.
People love this movie because it's camp fun. No one calls it one of the best horrors ever. You projected that on your own.
Yes, I have.
shareDitto to what Preach said. I have never, in all my life, ever heard anyone say it was a great horror film. It's a camp adventure-comedy film and a lot of fun Nothing else.

Then you've been listening to the wrong people.
My former Husband and I have pretty much the same taste in movies;this is fun, silly, high camp--hell, Rocky Horror Picture Show is more of a horror movie than AoD! And it's high camp, too.
