JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, WHYYYYYYYY????????

cuz they woudnt let him do star trek?

Or Doctor Who

reply

There is nothing wrong with the original Babylon 5, why tamper with perfection in all areas!?!

reply

Oh get real. I loved the series to bits, but it was far from perfect...especially in the first and fifth seasons. At least JMS is on board.

reply

I despise remakes at the best of times, it would be like remaking any Star Trek, or Doctor Who. And no, NuWho is not a remake, it's a continuation.

reply

Season 5 and Crusade for starters. Crusade didn't even get finished, so not even the most die-hard B5 fan can say that it was all perfect.

Even disregarding the above, however, B5 hasn't really aged very well. The rebooted BSG was a success; this could be too. I am cautiously enthusiastic.

"Season 5 and Crusade for starters."
Karl Aksel, do you know WHY Season 5 was the way it was? Season 5 was meant to be the second half of Season 4, but JMS had B5 threatened with cancellation, so he was forced, in S4, to condense TWO seasons into one, that's why it seems rushed in parts. Then he was granted a reprieve and then he had to make up notes into stories for S5.

"Crusade didn't even get finished, so not even the most die-hard B5 fan can say that it was all perfect."
I saw Crusade, it was boring, too philosophical and weird and the CGI was definitely dated too badly by then. Yes, the CGI was unchanged.

Disregarding the SFX, can you explain how B5 has aged with characterisation and plot?? Can you possibly imagine the classic tragic double act of Londo and G'Kar being topped with this dumb reboot? I DON'T THINK SO.

And besides, around HALF of the original classic B5 cast have PASSED ON, it would be an INSULT to their MEMORIES to do this crap woke reboot!!!!!

Exactly my point. Just because there's a legitimately good reason why S5 turned out the way it did, doesn't make it good. And perhaps a reboot would remedy that.

I saw Crusade, it was boring, too philosophical and weird and the CGI was definitely dated too badly by then. Yes, the CGI was unchanged.

And there's a legitimately good reason for all of that, as well. TNT desperately wanted to get out of the Crusade contract, and hamstrung the writing any way they could so that it would be JMS who broke the contract, not them. JMS was obliged to go along with their ideas for a while, but when they suggested that each episode should have random encounters of gladiatorial combat and sex, enough was enough.

But be that as it may - whatever the reason Crusade was boring, the fact that it was boring is just another reason to reboot it. There was nothing wrong with the plot.

Why wouldn't that be possible? I never saw the original Battlestar Galactica, but I thought the characters were excellent. They even changed Starbuck' gender, you know - which I'm sure didn't sit well with a lot of fans of the original, but newcomers wouldn't mind.

And that's just the thing: the original B5 will always be dear to the original fans, but it's not gaining a lot of new fans. A reboot could attract a lot of new fans, and that would be worthwhile in and of itself. A reboot is never for the benefit of original fans, because they already have what they want.

And besides, around HALF of the original classic B5 cast have PASSED ON, it would be an INSULT to their MEMORIES to do this crap woke reboot!!!!!

The reboot is by JMS himself. How is it an insult to their memories? It's his vision. If he feels he can tell the story better today, I say go for it.

So?

"The reboot is by JMS himself. It's his vision. If he feels he can tell the story better today, I say go for it."

But he won't. He'll have turned to the dark (woke) side, and to be honest, he'll join the likes of Kurtzman, Chibnall, Abrams/Johnson/Kennedy who have ruined the franchises they were involved with.

B5 was once-upon-a-lifetime lightning in a bottle, he'll never hit the same heights twice. It'll take a lot to convince me. JMS returning to Babylon 5 is like RTD returning to Doctor Who, I'll be curious if the former can maintain his high standards, and if the latter can lift that franchise from the abyss where it's currently at.

So, not everything is about you.

The thing about that bunch is that they were messing with other people's visions, so they had no personal attachment to the franchises themselves. This time around, however, it is the original creator rebooting his own work. You really don't think he'll respect his own vision?

A week ago, Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski revealed that a new animated film from the franchise was in the works, and now more details are coming to the surface.

Babylon 5: The Road Home will continue the story he started in the 1990s, with the log line stating, “Travel across the galaxy with John Sheridan as he unexpectedly finds himself transported through multiple timelines and alternate realities in a quest to find his way back home. Along the way he reunites with some familiar faces, while discovering cosmic new revelations about the history, purpose, and meaning of the Universe.”

Returning Babylon 5 castmembers include Bruce Boxleitner as John Sheridan, Claudia Christian as Susan Ivanova, Peter Jurasik as Londo Mollari, Bill Mumy as Lennier, Tracy Scoggins as Elizabeth Lochley and Patricia Tallman as Lyta Alexander.

Folks have been asking what style would be used for the #B5animatedmovie. During the Phoenix Fan Fusion convention, with Warners permission, I showed the first images from the movie seen anywhere. They have now kindly given the go-ahead to post them online as well, so here we go!
