The First Time You Heard About or Experienced Brisco County, Jr.

When was the first time you heard about or experienced the show?

I thank my Grandmother for having it on one day when I was around. I had just seen Army of Darkness on video at a friend's house, before that, I'd never even seen or heard of Bruce Campbell. I walked by the T.V. and there he was, I immediately recognized him. I asked my Grandmother what she was watching and from the day forward I was hooked. I journeyed down the entire Bruce Campbell/Sam Raimi path after that and came back a happy camper. My Grandmother loved the show, still does to this day. Brisco became my favorite show of all time and Bruce became my favorite Actor...which I'm proud to say he still is to this day. Bruce was even kind enough to send me an autographed picture (I hope it was Bruce who sent it) after I sent him a letter while the show was still airing. The show just hit all the rights chords for me. Now it's on DVD...this is awesome! Thanks Bruce!

I was in 6th grade when this show first aired back in 1993. I remember seeing the promo for it early in the summer. It was a scene of Brisco sitting on Comet with a noose around his neck. One of the bad guys said, "Slap the horse!" A guy smacked Comet, Brisco says "Whoa, Comet" and the horse doesn't move. The bad guy says, "Slap the horse again!" Comet gets slapped and Brisco says, "Easy Comet. Thats a good boy." Finally the bad guy says, "Hang the horse!" And Brisco gets a surpised look on his face. And then we are left with "Coming this fall."

It was hilarious. I looked forward to the show all summer. When it finally aired, I taped the pilot episode, loved it, and was there in front of the TV every Friday at 8:00 for Brisco's adventures. I must have watched that damn pilot a million times, wondering why I never taped the rest of the episodes. I had never heard of Bruce Campbell before, and even after I learned more about him and his work, (even though most people remember him as Ash) he has always been and will always be Brisco County Jr. to me.

The weirdest thing about it, is that I hate westerns. I loathe westerns. The fact that I would even watch this show in the first place was out of the ordinary, but I am so glad I did. Its not only a western, its an action/adventure, comedy, drama, sci-fi, all rolled into one. And its incredible. Its one of the greatest shows of all time, and I am so glad it is finally being released on DVD. Tomorrow, I am going to wake up first thing, head straight to Wal-Mart and pick up what will be one of my most treasured possessions for years to come. "Very fancy."

I watched this show when it was originally on Fox. It started the same season as the X-Files and was on directly before it. I didn't get into the X-Files until later, but loved Brisco County. I missed most of the last half of the season, but eventually caught up on it later. A great show and a damned shame it didn't last at least another season. I think they wrapped it up OK, but it would have been nice to see more of it.

I also started watching it from the very first episode, along with The X-Files, but I quickly stopped watching that drivel when it became obvious that they were less grounded in real science than Star Trek.

I first saw Brisco County Jr. when it originally aired on TV back in 1994. I was already a fan of Bruce Campbell from the Evil Dead movies.
This still remains as one of my all-time favorite TV shows, and one of the best and most perfectly suited roles for Bruce.
I downloaded a few episoes off of the net a few years ago, but the quality was not worth keeping.
I was really bummed out when the show was cancelled, and could not understand the lack of viewer support. (I know the budgets for each episode were very expensive for TV at the time.)
I am glad there is a big interest in the recently released DVD set. This is definitely worth owning.

reply

Yes, it's definitely worth owning! I'd like to give a shout out to all the fans who supported this show and to those who voted for and demanded a DVD release...thanks! A special thanks also goes to Bruce Campbell for having an honest respect for his fans and for being so involved throughout the DVD process. Now let's sit back and enjoy.

Eh, i was just starting grade 9 in high school the year this aired..

I was an absolute loser, so of course i didn't have anyplace to be on Friday nights.

I had a taste for Westerns, so started watching this one from the beginning.

The whole reason i started watching "The X-Files" from Day 1 was simply because it aired after Brisco, and there was nothing else on!
Great show, Brisco was.

I remember seeing the promos for the show the summer of '93 and immediately recognized the handsome hero as "that guy from the Evil Dead" movies. I eagerly awaited the premiere of the pilot episode and was hooked from the start...little knowing what a huge Bruce Campbell fan I would become. I was furious with FOX when the show was canceled, delighted when TNT began airing repeats, and ecstatic when I received the DVD set for my birthday this year (a gift from my oldest son). And if that didn't make me happy enough, I finally got to meet Bruce Campbell on Sept 20 when he made an appearance at the Barnes and Noble store here. I was able to get my DVD box signed.....and he signed it "Brisco".
Brisco will always be my all time favorite show and my favorite Bruce Campbell character!

I just got the boxed set for my b-day too! I'm on the second disc, and man I forgot how hilarious this show was! The jokes fly fast and furious... and they are actually very clever and funny! I can't believe how many little sight gags, and subtle jokes I missed (or forgot) when I watched this during my freshman year of HS back in 93'.

I think I saw every episode in order when they first aired, but sadly never could catch the TNT syndicated episodes. But now, I have the whole series right in the comfort of my own home, and I'm getting to introduce my girlfriend to the best show that ever aired.

My family watched the original airings, and I bought the DVDs as soon as I found out about them! Until then, I had no Brisco except for the music played during the olympics.

It probably was, Bruce is very in touch with his fans. I remember going to a autograph signing for his new book. Most of these are quick scribbling autographs, and maybe a handshake. But with Bruce everyone got a chance to sit down with him and He talked with you almost like a real conversation (it had to be quick there was a line up). I'll always remember what He said to Me. He signed the autograph to "maul" my nickname, He asked about the name and I told him the origin. He said " Well, its better then being called dickface." It was more light hearted than it sounds in print.

I never heard of Briscoe County until this month's Wikipedia article. I love Bruce Campbell's stuff so I thought I have to see it. I ordered the DVDs from Netflix immediately after reading the Wikipedia article. I'm about to start the first episode. Looks like it will be fun.

I always heard of "Brisco" but never saw it. A friend I work with loaned me his box DVD set. I have been watching groupings of episodes here and there over the last 3 months. I am finally on episode 20. It is a very good show. I love how they develop the Lord Bowler character. I won't spoil anything but they really have a very well-defined character there. Julis Carry is great as Bowler. I was very sad to find out he died in real life 4 years ago at a relatively young age.

Heard about it yesterday for the first time. Just watched the first episode and loved it. Wonder how I missed this. I was pretty young when it was new but I still should have remembered it airing on tv but I don't.

Watched it when it originally aired.

I was about 11 or 12 when the show first aired in 1993. I remember watching it from day one with my parents. At the time I didn't know who Bruce Campbell was or his other work.
