Not just a psycho cop thriller.

The movie also brings up issues regarding race, crime, security, class and masculinity in the modern world. It doesn't fully commit to those themes, but it's not preachy either.

Fully lives up to its R rating with the bloody violence and sex/nudity.

Fun to see Kurt Russell play a suburban beta yuppie who "man's up" at the end. A more interesting take on a similar character he played in "Breakdown."

Actually, I thought it was exactly a psycho cop thriller.

It wasn't much deeper than that. Yeah, Kurt Russell finally man's up, because he didn't have a choice. Ray was destroying Kurt's business interests. Landed him in the can, then invades Kurt's home.

All while trying to take his Wife. At some point, Kurt had to man up, LOL.

When did race come into it?

Yeah, agreed on one thing, he played the exact same kind of character in "Breakdown".

This is one of the better yuppie thrillers that do that, but I still disagree a little. The movie isn't intended to be a commentary on thematic messages. I think the point of showing the status of main characters was to show how their world contrasted from their real selves, especially Pete.
I also didn't see any real or intended messages about race. Perhaps the black actor who played the dude who broke into their home was just the actor they chose to go with, since his part was minor.
Lakeview Terrace does that quite a bit more often, though it also turns into a "crazy person" buildup in the later stages of the movie too.
