Why cut the power, when it gives people the opportunity to hide?

Basically everyone hid when the power was taken out, and they had to use their night vision goggles, which are still harder to see through. So why after taking out the guards, did they not just bust into the house with all the lights on, while they were all having dinner, blow everyone away on site, accept for Holmes of course, since they want to kidnap him. Wouldn't that have made more sense?

I always assumed that was the plan. They had the goggles which is still a big advantage over not seeing in the dark. They didn't think that someone might notice that other homes had power or otherwise catch on so quickly.

yeah the whole night goggles thing just seemed to be a "cool" cinematic decision to make it tense. The goggles completely ruined their infiltration. They were armed with sub machine guns and should've just burst in and caned everyone like you say.

The power might have been connected to some sort of alarm system.
