Gary Oldman: His best performance?

Is this Gary Oldman's best performance ever? Or is this the best Dracula performance?

reply

A good performance but nowhere near his best in my opinion. I prefer him in Leon and True Romance, both spectacular performances.

Absolutely. I was waiting for that ridiculous diatribe about comparing twilight with this masterpiece to finish.

Oldman's portrayal of Drexel in True Romance whilst very short, is in my opinion, his very best performance ever.

Oh my God he killed it in True Romance I can't think of another actor that would have pulled off that role the way Oldman did.

Oldman was great, but he's great in just about everything. I still think his performances in "True Romance" and even "The Fifth Element" have left vivid impressions.

It's definitely one of his best performances. Brilliant actor

It certainly is one of his finest performances, even though the script has some issues with it( mostly stemming from the reincarnation subplot with Mina).

I've got an ignore list longer than a Chinese phone book.

Oldman is one of the greatest actors in movies nowadays...period. His talent and complete mastery of any role is what makes him attractive.

He was good in this! the best Dracula next to Christopher Lee, I thought Hopkins was just as good in performance wise.

reply

Good question. Langella certainly was a wonderful Dracula, but Oldman's I think is even more multi-layered, heartbreaking. Oldman's acting in this could be up there, but he's so good in everything- Sid & Nancy and, my fave, as Shelly in the Contender and recently in Tinker. His acting here was superb that, despite not technically being as handsome as some, he's certainly plenty good looking to fit the role.

reply

Oldman's best performance is as Jim Gordon.

The best Dracula is Lugosi.

Two very different roles and performances - Dracula & Gordon.

Kind of interesting his role in the 90's were delicious, over the top, exaggerated, and in the aughts, they turned subtle but still magnificent.
