Do people actually like this?

I mean that 7.5 rating is a joke right? This movie is so unintentionally funny, it should actually be considered a comedy.

Well, I think people do like it as it's still very famous and popular adaptation.

It is BEAUTIFULLY produced. It's not like there's really that much to the story, anyway (and almost everyone knows the plot to begin with), so it is more about seeing these particular actors in this very arty environment.

It is kind of a lukewarm movie.....but that's not the point.

It is special.

One of my favorites, beautiful and haunting movie.

My favorite scenes that come to mind are the (Viking?) flashbacks, and when Dracula is following Mina when he comes to London.

Viking flashbacks??? VIKING???

Okay, it was on Syfy this morning, and yes - I like this film.

That doesn't mean I think it's great or good or anything, but it's weird and entertaining and unlike other movies and has some great scenes, and it has a unique and passionate atmosphere. IHMO it's somewhere between an interesting failure and a guilty pleasure, and is very much worth re-watching every now and then.

The sets and special effects were spectacular, the costumes were pretty and the acting (for the most part) was good. The weak part of this otherwise-decent movie wasthe script. Granted that not every scene from any novel will translate well to the screen, and so for that reason certain scenes might have to be revised, but this fiilm went way too far.

If interested, I can provide examples.

In my experience, the only people who liked this movie for the most part are us that were young when it came out. All the old school Dracula fans don't seem wild about it and all the new Millennial people seem to find it a joke. I grew up watching all the old movies and when this came out, for me, it was the culmination of a great many elements of all of them. I thought it was the absolute masterpiece of the whole genre. Vampire culture wasn't yet a dead beaten horse either, this was still relatively fresh and exciting.

I haven't seen this in years but my least favorite thing I remember was Mina's and Dracula's romance and the fact they made Dracula sympathetic.

What bothers me the most is that they had the gall to title this Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Bram rolled over in his grave when they did that. I’ve read Stoker’s novel twice. There is NO LOVE STORY in it, damn it! There is no backstory about a suicidal wife and her reincarnation in it! There is no bullshit about a vampire being able to walk in sunlight, albeit in weakened state, in it! In the book, Drac DOES NOT WEAR GRANNY GLASSES!! Most film versions of Dracula are based on a stage play and not on the novel, so they omit the importance of Dracula’s voyage to England, and the entries in the ship’s log and in various diaries, which, when combined, was a precursor of the narrative value of today’s found footage. So this movie at least included some of that. Beyond that, however, it is an insult to what Abraham “Bram” Stoker actually wrote. I don’t like it at all.

Overall yeah I like it, there are some things that didn't work out so well (such as Reeves) but like The Godfather Part III it is a competent film (not amazing but competent)
