PAUL'S MOTHER

I've notice that every chance she got, she was always disrepecting Jamie, even in her own house. What was her problem? Jamie always give her repect, but she didn't give respect back. I wouldn't blame Jamie if she had choke the life out that woman. The thing that bothered me is that Paul never had his wife's back on that situation. Is there a reason he never stepped in and set his mother straight? Did he not know when she is dissing his wife, she is dissing him too? There's a saying in The Bible that go the man shall leave his father and join his wife and the two shall become one. I think that how it is written. Maybe I've missed an episode or two where it did happend, but if not does anyone know the answer to these questions?

Oh, come on, that woman was hysterically, laugh out loud funny.

I loved the one where she zapped every one of them in one breath in the hospital when her husband had a heart attack. they were all flabbergasted! Shear perfection!

Sometimes I fall a sleep watching the show, and i'm not in a deep sleep and when i hear her i wake up laughing.

i agree. i thought paul's mother was horrible until i saw Rays mother from Everybody loves raymond. Marie makes Puals mother look like an angel.

wouldn't Silva being nice to Jamie and treating her as a equal be kind of boring?

reply

no because the show wasnt about the inlaws.

Just saw the first Thanksgiving show. Paul went to Jamies parents house for Thanksgiving for the first time. His mother mailed him a turkey, and other food to Jamies parents house. He didnt see anything wrong with it.

Of course Jamie was mad, as would anyone.

I think that the Sylvia Buchman character, & Cynthia Harris' flawless potrayal of same, are perhaps an exaggerated version of yr. Typical N.Y. Jewish mother, and on the other hand the perfect example of a N.Y Jewish mother. Take yr. Pick. Either way, I think both the role, & the actress, are treasures!

Jamie was a saint for putting up with this woman like she did. She even covered for her when she faked an injury when she hated that the baby got attention. And Paul, was a crappy husband for allowing her to disrespect his wife like she did.

Paul himself was incapable of standing up to her. She was always putting him down and treating him like crap. She even mistreated her own daughters. The only one she treated with any respect was Ira.

selfish bitch ,mother showing her insecurity , selfish bitch ,can't see her baby as an adult ,selfish bitch ,needs someone to need her , selfish bitch ,hates sharing , selfish bitch .

It's not that she was disrespecting Jamie. Paul's mother was abrasive and extremely controlling to everyone around her. She was highly judgmental and very negative toward the entire family.

reply

I remember when Jamie was pregnant and Paul's mother walked to the unborn baby inside of Jamie and not to Jamie. She was awful and Paul should not have let her get away with it.

LOL Funny that Sylvia liked the daughter's lesbian lover. 

Yes, especially when Sylvia and her husband were depicted as conservatives and everyone else on the show was depicted as liberal.

This is the right answer. She was literally treating Jamie like one of the family.
