What were your opinions on John's foster parents?
I didn't think they were all that bad and wish they would've gotten more screen time, I always thought Todd was actually a funny character.

shareThey seemed decent enough, hard working, a bit square...good people
shareDecent people who for whatever reason had no children of their own, so instead they took on foster children, naively thinking they could "fix" a broken teenager by giving him a stable and structured home.
shareJohn was pretty disrespectful to them. He doesn't seem all that upset by their deaths. I have seen some people insist they were abusive towards him.
shareNot sure how anyone got the idea that they were abusive to John based on how little we saw of them. I took it as they tried to set boundaries and structure for John, and he just rebelled against it, and they were exhausted by him. Obviously the T-1000 wasn't the first time someone in a police uniform came to their door asking for John.
shareWell yeah. When T-1000 looks him up at the beginning it says he has been caught for trespassing before.
shareI never thought the foster parents were abusive towards John, I've seen parents act a lot worse than Todd and Janelle.
shareI felt sorry for them. They take in a troubled orphan who repays them by stealing, disrespect, and leads to their murders. Thanks for nothing, fate.
sharei never understood why John was so disrespectful towards them, if I were John I would've been grateful and appreciative towards having them as my foster parents, I didn't think both Todd & Janelle deserved to get murdered.
shareJohn had his rebellion and lack of direction issues but I think it was clearly expressed in the film that his foster parents compounded this.
This was evidenced when Todd was too lazy to get off the couch to stop John from going out on his juinor criminal bender, and simply watching John sped away on his motorbike while non-chalantly smoking his cigarette; Todd lazily expecting John to consider his foster mother as his real mother; and John's suprise that his foster mother is being nice to him when the T-1000 is impersonating her.
Also of note is that John's foster parents were still sitting at home that night doing their everyday routine even after a cop and a biker had appeared that day mysteriously asking for John...and even after John still hadn't returned home by dark...
They were intended to be played as un-involved and lazy foster parents. The filmmakers did not express any pathos over their demise, and Todd's death by milk cartoon that he was drinking from like a slob was played strictly for dark laughs.
agree. They seem like the type of people who thought they could make a quick buck off of foster parenting....and were surprised when they got John who had 'issues'. Serves them right. No love lost. It's a cautionary tale to all of those people who gush about how nice being a foster parent is.
shareExactly 👍👍
shareYeah. Now thinking on it, I can see people thinking they were abusive just from how Todd was acting right before he was killed. Calling the dog a beep mutt and a worthless piece of beep.
sharegood post!
this is true. they were not bad peoples. just bad foster parent!
from what we were shown those folks were aiight.
i always found john to be a little shit..

Somewhat but not enough for me to hate them, I did find Todd to be more likable than Janelle.
