Plot Hole Fest '05

Why is there such a ridiculous amount of plot holes and mistakes in this film? Some friends and I watched it, and we could barely go a minute without noticing something that stands out and ruins the film. Take some of these for example:

-Why does a ship disappear when it's shot at?
-I didn't know a letter could chop off a hand.
-Shep's never been to Earth but knows exactly what to do (what a vending machine is).
-Why does Charlie's secretary call him by his last name?
-How could that Japanese guy be impressed after three words...and if he speaks english, why does he need a translator?
-How in the world does the wife have enough time to watch 2 TV shows, talk on the phone with Charlie, put up a sign, and convert a shed into a rentable apartment in like eight or nine hours?...plus, Shep knows exactly which house is for rent.
-When that kid gets knocked into the bushes, it's obvious he just ran in.
-Why are kids skateboarding when they should be at school?
-That racing car was not in gear.
-The family looks directly at camera when Shep's eating cake, but the photo that develops shows them looking in different direction.
-Seriously, what mime works in an alley at night?
-Shep’s charging amount is not correct with the amount of time he has been charging it.
-Twenty kids should not be at an arcade at midnight.
-I didn't know X-ray glasses could also pick up audio from far away.
-Why are cantaloupes sold at the "banana" stand, and why is no one actually working there?.
-According to Shep, dot = bounty hunters.
-Shep has to rip the door off of Charlie's car when he takes too long to unlock it, but the passenger side door is unlocked.
-So Shep always has antifreeze on him?
-Why the heck are the bounty hunters at the Surfin' Burger?
-That rod that Shep makes the bunny out of should have been much longer...and why did the bounty hunters give the weapon back to him?
-When that bounty hunter goes through the wall, he goes through face first, but the hole's outline is of him standing.
-Why would an intruder (near the end) leave the door open?
-How does Shep automatically get skateboarding skills?
-Why does Charlie still have a gun when they shouldn't have anything that can be tracked?

Yeah, that's probably not even half of the blunders we found. Granted, it's a kids movie, and kids aren't going to notice this stuff. But if you're not a kid and you're watching this, try to look for these blunders. Believe me, it's not hard to notice them. And it actually makes watching the movie enjoyable.

Those aren't plot holes. Shep Ramsey has powers that we on Earth cannot understand with our primitive brains. Whenever I see something in the movie that I don't understand, I stop and tell myself "Shep Ramsey is magic".

reply

shep is actually god's other son...the more badass one.

Well, didnt any of you wonder why Charlie had a homing device in his glove compartment?. And why did they not use that in the first place like charlie said?

Also when Shep and Charlie go to the bank to retrieve the freeze gun, why is Charlies boss there? how he get there so fast? he only just had a meeting with Charlie.

And the staberlize button thingy already mentioned in this board, my question is how did Shep get back into his own ship?, i mean it has a side gull wing door almost, I see no atmosphere pressure compartment, that he would have needed to go through in order to enter his own ship.
Did he just climb out of the escape pod and float through the open side gull door?

I have After Burner at my home and just for kicks I turned it on the other day and screamed "Give it up Dragos" while randomgly mashing the buttons, hence I was killed 10 seconds later.

When the bounty hunters see the Skateboard spinning in space (the one Shep threw with his great strength) we can clearly hear the sound of it whooshing by how? there is no sound in space.

walnut man, I thought I watched this movie too many times. but you take the cake... you take the cake and hurl it into deep space...like a skateboard.

You know what Shep Ramsey has to say, when someone points out a plot hole to him in the movie, "Shut up."

It happens in the car with Christopher Lloyd after he gets frozen.

And.. you're trying to make sense out of a cheesy 80's movie, starring Hulk Hogan. Enjoy it for the crap fest it is!

Shep's never been to Earth but knows exactly what to do (what a vending machine is).

At the beginning of the film when Shep sees Earth he says I hate Earthlings which would imply he's been to Earth before

reply

Also both Shep and the bountyhunters know how to drive cars.

I watched the film last year after seeing it on Nostalgia Critic. The biggest plothole is that if Shep has never been to Earth before, then how can he have the money to pay the rent to Charlie and Jenny? Dont't they worry about renting a room in their house to a complete stranger with no source of income, who happens to have a penchant for damaging the neighbours property? And also, why does no-one ever notice Sheps spaceship crashlanding into the warehouse, or even when it takes off in broad daylight? Do spaceships just come and go in this society?

reply

Yeah, I always wondered about the rent money.

reply

you are really pathetic

reply

Yall are over-analyzing it too much. Just enjoy it for what it is.
