does anyone else agree that the casting...

Was spot on except for Dan ackroyd? It wasn't realistic that someone who looked like Jamie Lee Curtis and had her fun personality would be attracted to him...... and grumpy, innocent, shy and serious can be cute but he is not attractive physically in the slightest. There were so many actors around that time that could have pulled off that personality but who are more handsome. He just didn't fit in any way in this film for me. What about Kevin Kline? He would have been great. Anyone but Dan ackroyd!! I guess I'm not a huge fan of his in general. I don't find his acting anything special nor di I find him funny in any of his comedic roles. He doesn't ruin the film for me, I still loveeeee it but does anyone else agree? Who could you see playing the dad better?

This is my all time favorite movie I love everything about it so I can't say that I agree.

I agree. Jamie Lee looked good and Aykroyd had apparently put on a lot of weight since the 80s. He was noticeably fatter in this movie.

It was very implausible that Jamie Lee would be attracted to Ackroyd in this movie. She's good looking, fun, and outgoing. He's overweight...and just a total nerd and grumpy, frumpy, totally boring guy LOL. Totally unbelievable that she would like him in that way.

What they should have done is had her show an interest in him after he punched her ex. Then as he starts coming out of his shell (and starts dieting and exercising), she starts liking him more. That would have been much more believable.

Yeah definitely at least something like that. But she's all into him right away, asking him out first..... It made no sense. As a woman I'm like wait, what? Looks aren't everything but personally is and his wasn't great, they barely spoke and if anything he would have asked her out first. Just no chemistry between them at all. So many actors could have done the role just as well if not better. And been better looking. She did makeup and wanted to be a makeup artist in Hollywood. No way would she have been automatically attracted to him out of nowhere. And vada was so beautiful, and in the second movie that video of her mom is thus beautiful actress. He doesn't fit in!! Lol. He did an alright job In this film as an actor but he's nothing special in my opinion. There are tons of not so handsome actors I actually find hot cause they are so funny or so talented but he just isn't one of them.

It was a distracting match, and the whole movie all I could think was 'gold digger'. She seemed like a (perhaps former) flighty party girl who was maybe getting her hooks into him because he was stable, well off and would look after her. It felt strange from the start. And she not knowing how old Veda was at that point in their relationship? That was all kinds of wrong.

Maybe all just a combination of bad writing and bad casting.

...then whoa, differences...

I personally thought Dan was perfect. He had the undertaker tone with a slight everyman quality. Yes, she was out of his league. But she seemed like a woman who dealt with schlubs (as her ex-hubby). So, for her, she seemed a free-spirit to his uptight constant focus on death and lack of emotion. I think what she saw was a man trying hard to raise a daughter in tragedy. I think she admired him a great deal, looks notwithstanding. I bought it b/c it seemed to redeem Jamie Lee's shady past. She finally found a "family man"...as a discussion she explained what she saw in him. I agree. I was never a fan of his comedy roles either. He's amazing in supporting roles. See: "Driving Miss Daisy."

Incidentally, in regards to "My Girl 2" did you notice how dismissive Jamie Lee was about Los Angeles? In two years she seemed to have forgotten it was her dream to go to Hollywood to become a makeup artist.. in fact, I think in MG2 she seemed to not even have L.A. on her radar. A HUGE backstory that was completely forgotten.

I thought Dan was perfect, too. There are some people out there who fall for personalities, and then at that point, it doesn't matter if they're considered attractive. I've been there.
I personally think the entire cast was perfect, makes the movie look more realistic when not everyone in it is "attractive".
