Interesting Low-Grade Action Flick
A bit of a review...
I've always liked Brian Thompson and used to hope one day he would take over from Arnie on The Terminator series of movies but that ship has sailed unfortunately.
I had never watched a movie with Thompson in the leading role so when I heard this title pop up in a commentary for The Terminator, I had to check it out. The first half has Thompson receive his mission, get all the mercenaries (a group of women) together and then train them before they head undercover as a gay fashion designer and his group of models putting on a show in South America, in order to secretly go and terminate a former leader of the country.
What ensues is a bunch of action sequences while a helicopter flies around doing constant unnecessary turns around the fortress helps break up the edits of action scenes and includes Thompson hijacking it with the pilot pulled out and hanging from the skids.
The great George Kennedy plays this rich business / political figure who is seen a few times, with a cool thing at the end.
The highlight of the movie is seeing tough guy Thompson kiss another man to prove he's gay and then later hit the sack with one of the ladies to prove he 'cares' about her. It's an odd movie and the movie poster is clearly channeling a bit of Arnie from the Commando one.
But in the end it shows why Thompson has remained a B-grade actor and not a leading man like Arnie, someone who also takes criticism about his acting, but I feel that Thompson's timing of lines in a lot of scenes just lets him down.
