Why this movie was voted so low ?

I didn't expect to find this movie been voted only as 4.7 in average. It is definitely not masterpiece but pretty nice and my daughter's favorite one.
I would like to get other opinions

Because it is total *beep* Sentimental rubbish with a paper thin story and annoying characters.

A movie like this would have worked in the 1930's with Shirley Temple as the precocious kid, Clark Gable as the pretend dad and Barbara Stanwyck as the uptight lawyer. Not in the early nineties, with the unfunny Jim Belushi and no personality Kelly Lynch. Alisan Porter was cute but also obnoxious and as a result, couldn't save this. Overall, the movie was dated, predictable and boring.

Don't let anyone ever make you feel like you don't deserve what you want.

What never ceases to amaze me is how people can believe that one's taste in movies is anything but subjective. Is someone's enjoyment of Curly Sue something that everyone can measure and then, after adjusting a few variables, we can all say this is exactly where you went wrong? Of course not...

Of course, this doesn't mean that you cannot express your opinion, but let's not play the game of saying that 'my taste in movies is better than yours' or criticize another person's opinion, because your taste is better - in light of the above, any of this is just an empty exercise in egotism.

That said, I agreed most with Roger Ebert about this movie. For the first hour, I found it incredibly sappy, sentimental hogwash... I found the kid corny. I found the scenes where she connected with James Belushi overly soft-hearted. I found the notion of them getting close to Kelly Lynch overly sentimental as well. In other words, it was like watching a bad animated Norman Rockwell painting! I was so underly-enthused that I had to leave my house and get a coffee to get out of it. When I came back, the conflict in the movie arose. At that point, the reality of the situation set in, and, if you understood this conflict, you would have to be someone without a drop of compassion to not understand (not necessarily someone with less than a thousand drops...).

When this happened, I started to feel for the characters, and better appreciate what the movie was about. I then came out of the movie with a thumbs up. In any event, I wish other people would feel the same way, and you are entitled to your opinion, but please don't tell me that I'm an idiot for thinking or feeling the way I do...
