Why this movie was voted so low ?

I didn't expect to find this movie been voted only as 4.7 in average. It is definitely not masterpiece but pretty nice and my daughter's favorite one.
I would like to get other opinions

reply

I was hesitating to get this movie because of the low rating, but on the contrary the movie turned out to be very sweet and heart-warming. Definitely gets added to my tear-jerker-heart warming movie collection.

reply

I know, it is a great movie, IMDb ratings are useless sometimes, best user comments tend be more accurate.

reply

This movie is not terrible at all, may be not a piece of art, bur very decent and obviously deserves to be rated higher.

"Alisan Porter didn't work for 8 years. What does that tell you?"
It doesn't tell anything, she was a girl and might have a different priorities
in her life. And no matter what are you saying, SHE IS A GREAT PART OF THIS MOVIE!

You didn't offend me, just the word "terrible" is very strong;
the low rate is surprised me, because I saw much worse movies having higher score in IMDB

In answer to the original question.. because its cheesy sh*te?!

reply

who cares if she worked or what she did... The movie was good to some, I liked it, that girl was adorable and is now very beautiful... as 4 her working, who cares! we're talkin bout (this) movie...

Would you do me a favor?
Please, give me a list of the comedies(4-5) in your opinion deserves the rate of 7?
At least I'll know your preferences.

I really shocked by the vote of CS, because usually I agree with most of the voters regarding other movies.
What is wrong with this movie? I start to think: may be something wrong with me?

reply

Of course there is nothing wrong with you. You enjoyed this movie, alot of people did. I certainly did not mean to make you feel bad in any way. Please accept my apologies.

Here is a list of some of my favs, not in order. And as you can see, some of mine aren't that high either.

Overboard
Baby Boom
Naked Gun
Uncle Buck
Plains, Trains & Automobiles
Young Frankenstein
Career Opportunities
Mr. Destiny(another Jim Belushi film)

reply

I went trough your list, well...I agree only on 3: Overboard
Baby Boom & Young Frankenstein; the others are OK but nothing special.

But thank you for answering.

Don’t worry, you didn’t offend me.

reply

That list only proves once again that there's no accounting for individual taste. It is what it is.

I thought she didn't work because she was on broadway and has a singing career.. which just shows that shes into music and is talented at singing as well as acting.. and i think this is really a great movie but thats a matter of opinion and people shouldn't get nasty about it.

Watch this movie start trending as of the end of February 2016.

I just saw Alisan Porter's blind audition on The Voice. It was teased to promote their new season. I have never watched that show. I will watch it this season. As for her not working for 8 years--she addresses her lack of work as an actress after her audition. Acting was never her passion. Singing was. Going through some hardships and difficulties, then becoming a mom refined her, and she's ready to return.

I love this movie. The cast was great, and it was a hear-filled movie. I am amazed that the votes are pretty low. All my friends who have seen this movie love it to death, and it's one that we can watch over and over again.

reply

I hope I never run into you or your 'friends' then, especially on video rental night..

reply

i totally agree - i give it a 8 at the LEAST

reply

I'd give your taste in films a -8 at LEAST.

reply

good for you. like i care

You should. You may just learn something :)

guy or girl?

reply

Does my gender really matter? Good advice is good advice. I was only joking anyway.. you're entitled to your opinion on any film. No matter how misguided you might be ;).

In terms of John Hughes movies though, this wasn't his best. Give me Planes, Trains & Automobiles or Ferris Bueller anyday above the tale of a 9 year old con artist..

reply

well at least we agree on one thing. Ferris bueller is an awesome movie - one of my faves. curly sue isnt one of my faves i just thought it was better than the rating it got. (then again i havent seen it for a while and i think i was quite a bit younger when i last saw it -not SO young)

Hey, just for the record your a guy! :)

reply

I found it a rather sweet and nice piece of film

reply

The problem with Curly Sue is that it tries to be sweet and nice with seemingly random episodes of slapstick and wierd soundeffects. Most of the film is rather realistic but every once in a while someone gets knocked 5 meters by a little girl, almost murdered by cars, or knocked out by doors. This is why the film is rated so low. Everytime the film gets "homealoney" the magic breaks and we are reminded that we're whatching a film.

How about that...a film aimed at the under 12 crowd doesn't quite cut it in your books because its puerile. That's like not liking Star Wars because it was too science-fictiony and special-effectsy.

I can see why the film gets the ratings it does...essentially it is going to reflect a percentage of population that liked it, about 41 percent. Which makes sense since the preponderance of posters to IMDB are adults and a film like Curly Sue may come across as too kiddified, saccharine, poorly paced, etc. Plop a little girl in front of this and she gives it a 9, would have been a 10 but there were no ponies.

I get the impression that you don't like the precocious children in the films you mentioned because you just don't like kids. Why are you commenting on a film that contains a kid and meant for kids then?

Weird.

reply

Me and my kids have been watching John Hughes films all week and we ended Our "festival" with this one and we just loved it. Maybe it helps if you are familiar with the Hughes style, all his films are a step out of reality, like fairy tales. You are not supposed to think "is that possible" you should just go with the flow of it.

My favorite moment was when the lawyer woman winked into the camera for a brief second. It was like a nod to the fans.

Had I watched it alone I may not have liked it as much, but since the kids enjoyed it so much I ended up having quite a good time, giving it an 8/10.

reply

yeah...couldnt get it why it is rated so low...
Eventhough I hate James belushi (for me he is the unfunniest guy in the world)...I love this movie...the little girl is so adorable and she played her role very well...

reply

I enjoyd it. I'd give it a 7.

reply

I think the soundtrack is great. It should have been nominated for best soundtrack at the oscars.
