Why was it so bad in the hood?

What event started it to make them act that way? They were black people killing other black people. I'm sure if a white person went into the hood and started shooting, all the blacks would stick together and want to kill that white person. Yet, why are the black people OK with killing each other so easily instead of sticking together and all being friends? They are all convinced that white america hates them, yet instead of sticking together they just want to shoot each other dead. What happened to trigger the "thug mentality?"

The violence has always been there. Gangs made it explode along with the drug trade. When black women have multiple children, each with a different father, they are already set up to fail. 70% of black children today are born to single mothers, with a majority on government assistance. When kids are raised in these environments with no proper role models or parents that care, the cycle continues. Most of them blame white people for their situation and take no personal responsibility for thier actions... its always somebody else's fault.

As for shooting each other and always fighting and talking *beep* to each other, look up "crabs in a barrel"

Damn.

I don't think it is a racial thing. I have noticed all the same behaviour with white people in the ghetto.

Turf wars...fighting over drug dealing territory. It all boils down to money.

The movie blames racism in society. Furious talks about "liquor stores on every corner." How the SAT exams are slanted against blacks. Blacks didn't have the opportunities as whites, according to the movie

reply

They built the liquor stores because the thugs in the hood wanted them. Liquor stores didn't create the hood. Always seemed like dumb reasoning

Crack epidemic mainly. You see older people like Furious, Tre's mom, Ricky's mom and they all grew up in a different era where things were more prosperous in the community. When crack exploded then gangs took over neighborhoods, feuding over money, territory, etc. A lot of fathers went to prison and left young black children to grow up with single mothers who really had their hands full trying to raise a family under those conditions.

There used to be jobs in 'the hood.' Those jobs were eliminated or moved over seas. Couple that with LBJ's administration rewarding mothers for having children but no father in the house. The rest just happens naturally.

Remind me, again, about the "switch" the democrat party went through...
