"Everything decent has been done. All the great themes have been used up and turned into theme parks."

The late 80s/early 90s seemed too early for people to be thinking that - or maybe it's just a generational thing?

So many great monologues in this movie.

This sentiment was definitely kicking around already. A big part of the grunge movement was nihilistic pessimism as the over indulgent 80s burned themselves out and kids saw the writing on the wall that they weren't gonna have the future their parents did.

Probably a generational thing.

However if the film was made 10 or so years later he would have had a social media channel or site of some sort instead and broadcast to the world.

Not quite the same lonely vibe as the pirate station.
