Richard Gere

Ive only recently watched this movie and was completely blown away by both Andy Garcia and Richard Geres performance. They were both so great, amazingly intense and just great to watch.

Whilst watching the scene when Peck kills Van Stretch, i thought Peck seemed genuinely upset with what he was having to do - does anyone else agree?

Yes. Recently rewatched & this movie is really good. Much better than the rating here. And everyone was excellent in this. Gere is always underappreciated. He can act & was a great villain here. I disagree with the others. He was a total sociopath

I think this is one of his best performances when his career was at an all time low. Gere and Garcia hated each other and it shows. Gere's gratitude towards Figgis for saving his career led to his involvement in Mr Jones.

Internal Affairs is one of my all time favourites, watched it at least 15 times.
Some musical and scenic references in Training Day and Brooklyn's Finest.

I completely agree, 100%. Without Gere and Garcia this movie would rate only a 6 in my books. With them in the movie, it's a genuinely enjoyable film to watch. No wonder they both have acting careers spanning several decades apiece!

First off, to the OP the Peck character didn't give a rat's when Stretch was killed, either before, during or when he finished him off. Peck was a complete sociopath, and yes Gere nailed it. And I agree that Garcia was great as well, I especially like his scene where he makes is clear to Peck's wife that she's going to jail if she doesn't play ball. Laurie Metcalf was good also, I never realized how good looking she was until I saw this movie. Oh and finally, Nancy Travis was good. All she had to do was show up. Damn she's hot.

dkgambler, I agree Gere & Garcia were awesome in here. Peck was a twisted dude for sure. Gere's performance was pretty underrated, as was Garcia's performance. They were great, Gere really nailed the psychotic role down, almost like Denzel did with Training Day and Pacino did with Scarface. Garcia really impressed me, I loved that Serpico moment in here when he slammed his chair down, very remiscent of Pacino when he does the same in Serpico. I think Andy Garcia even said that he was a HUGE fan and that was an ad-lib he did as a nod to one of his favorite Pacino scenes. I also agree that Nancy Travis & Laurie Metcalf looked hot in here, I never really thought of Laurie as a hot woman, not saying she was ever ugly, but I never thought of her as sexy. I was used to her from Roseanne but she looked great in here. Nancy Travis is ALWAYS hot in anything and in any role IMHO.

w/o a doubt internal affairs one of the most underratted flicks imho
a real modern noir classic you ask me

and gere is the reason damn him to hell j/k

it never fails: gere will SNIFF every time the scene gets intense and andy garcia, who i like, will start YELLING his lines way too often, like mr al pacino! watch jennifer 8, for example. amazing!

I agree the film is under-rated, but I don't think Peck is upset when he kills Stretch. He has already decided to be present when he gets disembowelled with a shotgun, and seems willing to finish the job until disturbed by the witness driving away.

Yes, he is shocked when he discovers Stretch is still alive, but apart from that he just seems anxious at how close the emergency services come to arriving before he has choked Stretch to death. Maybe even at the chance Stretch might be resuscitated.

I agree 100%.I have seen it five times or so and Gere is excellent.Gere is one of those humans whom God should let him be young forever.
I am certain that if Andy G.had had chin implant surgery..his career would have been better for him...seriously.
