Do you consider Captain Ramius to be a traitor?

Topic.

reply

Yes.

reply

Good question. What is your definition of traitor?

reply

I don’t know.

reply

He is a traitor to Russia, absolutely.

reply

Yes. Fortunately for the U.S.

Reminds me of a hilarious quip by Richard Dawson when he was on Match Game (1970s). I forget the exact exchange but he was talking about context, and for instance Benedict Arnold was a big hero in England..

reply

The founding fathers of the USA were traitors to the crown. We would actually consider them terrorists today.

"If you win you're a revolutionary. If you lose, you're a rebel."

If you were British, yes.

reply

The colonists themselves were British. Until the American revolution, the founding fathers were British.

That aside, imagine today if citizens declared their independence using the same language as the Declaration, armed themselves and started warring with the established government. We'd all look at them like whackjobs and [yes] terrorists.

reply

Some colonists were British, but others were second or more generations removed even if they did legally possess British citizenship under common law.

Terrorists? Depends on their methods, but whoever wins gets to call the definitions used.

reply

Absolutely.

reply

Defectors by definition are traitors.
