Why is this movie considered good.

Seriously the movie is boring montage of murder. Henry Hill is the same asshole at the being of the movie as he is at the end. He has no character arch, development, or anything. And the rest of the characters are about as interesting as cardboard. At the end Henry Hill goes into the witness protection program not learning a god damn thing. Why is something this fucking shallow as this movie even considered 17 best movie of all time according IMDB. No wonder Dances with Wolves won the Oscar that year.

Pffffft. It's one of the top ten movies of all time. I'm guessing you loved "Crazy Rich Asians"?

Why do I not put a question mark at the end of my questions.

reply

I don't know. I can't stand it. I almost walked out when I saw it in theater. Ray Liotta's voiceover especially gets on my nerves for some reason. Its the primary reason why I don't object much if people call Scorsese overrated.

well you are wrong

Its a subjective opinion, I think there's not right or wrong.

Well, I don't form my opinion of movies based on review sites. And as you can see from this thread, I'm not alone. Movies are subjective, its not a democracy where is a winner.

reply

yaaa bascially all of human society disagrees with you. its a good movie and your opinions junk.

reply

Yeah, but the OP already conceded that the movie was considered good: now are you able to answer his question about "WHY it is considered good" or not?

reply

The movie is considered good because it does an excellent job of showing that, ultimately, crime does not pay. The music, the clothes, the cars, the women, the food, the brotherhood in the first half of the film makes the mob life look so exciting and comfortable. You start to believe Henry's self-delusional narration, that everyday working stiffs were dead and why wouldn't anyone want to be part of this elite club.

Then comes Brooklyn 1970 and the Billy Batts murder. That, whether Henry realized it or not at the time, was the beginning of the end. From that point on its double-crossing, killing your best friends, excessive drug use, prison time, ratting on your friends to avoid prison or getting whacked, and living the rest of your life like the 'dead' working stiffs Henry ridiculed at the beginning of the movie.

And that it was at least based on a real story makes it especially effective.

Excellent score too. Great songs played at perfect moments.

reply

Because it's awesome.

I've seen parts of it on TV once in a while and it doesn't retain my interest
